“Was it a war crime to seal japanese soldiers in their caves on Iwo Jima?”

I doubt they were trying to surrender.

I have zero doubt they were trying to surrender as they flopped around on fire.

The occaisions Wrong Paul is talking about here are in the midst of shooting, across an entire trench front.

No, an individual troop does not get a battle halted in the midst of fighting, and no again, there is no obligation to offer quarter. Yes they were scared when they died. That is war.

If any Iraqi troops were still in the trenches and bunkers, than they weren’t trying to surrender either. They were active enemy soldiers.

IMO an irrelevent point.

At what point does a surrender count ? seconds before the dirt covers them?

How many surrendered during war time only to have a hidden grenade on them to kill our soldiers.
