Occupy Lubbock protestor arrested after confrontation (Texas)

LUBBOCK (KCBD) - One person is behind bars following a confrontation at the Occupy Lubbock camp.

Protestors say three men, in a black pickup truck, parked behind the camp, at 19th Street and University Avenue, around 6:45 p.m. Monday, and began shouting obscenities at them.

One of the protestors, Andrew McMillan, confronted the men, who witnesses say threatened to beat him up if he came any closer.

McMillan tried to get the truck's license plate as the men drove off. Protestors say the driver stopped, then one of the men got out and pointed a gun at McMillan.

When officers arrived, the men said McMillan tried to get in the truck. Police arrested McMillan for an unrelated warrant. Police say the man with the gun had a concealed handgun license.

No one in the pickup truck was arrested.

Gotta be careful who's truck you are trying to get into in Texas.

While shouting obscenities isn't the brightest thing to do to these occupy folks as I usually laugh my butt off at them, you REALLY have to be careful when trying to climb into a Truck in Texas.

There have been over 100 arrests at the occupy Austin camp. Organizers say that most of the arrests are homeless, but a lady called in to a talk show and she said most at the site did not look like homeless people are dressed.

19th Street and University is on the campus of Texas Tech University. Why would they “occupy” some perceived friendly territory? I guess there is an evil Bank of America across the street.

Lubbock’s Occupier camp was, at best, a dozen local morons who haven’t figured out that Lubbock is overwhelmingly populated with conservatives.

"Lubbock is the butt of Texas jokes."

Lubbock is a nice little city. I've been to every corner of Texas, and Lubbock is far from the worst.

They are not on University poroperty. At the intersection of the 19th and University you have the following: a gas station, a bank, an empty lot, and part of the TTU campus. These wankers are Occupying the empty lot (TTU told them early on to pound sand when these idiots were looking for a venue).

I actually like Lubbock, my mother and I stayed there overnight a few years ago and it is a nice little town (with a great musical history), even though I have heard a lot of Lubbock jokes from other Texans.

I live in a little rural town (less than 200 people)and we have joked about having an “Occupy (name of town)” pro-capitalist party by inviting other people in, having a town supper and a street dance.

Somewhat related comment from a friend out in the Bay Area:

“We’re occupying west coast ports ... at Prager winery.”

If you haven’t been to Lubbock in years, you would not believe the growth. Jokes probably stem from the past, when Lubbock was not much more than a university surrounded by feed lots and cotton fields.

It has only been about 2.5 years, it wasn’t that long ago, but I have seen old photos/video of Lubbock and you can really see the growth.

I live here and saw the news report. There are only a few tents out by Texas Tech. The guy who is crying looked like a punk who is being used by Moveon.org. He indicated they might need more people in the tents so the one person staying there will not be alone. 1 person.. a few tents.. sounds a little like the dems would pull. I bet he was even bused in from Austin.
