US Made Covert Plan to Retrieve Iran Drone (but feared to upset Iran)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 7 December 2011 | Julian E. Barnes

U.S. officials considered conducting a covert mission inside Iran to retrieve or destroy a stealth drone that crashed late last week, but ultimately concluded such a secret operation wasn't worth the risk of provoking a more explosive clash with Tehran, a U.S. official said.

>>never crossed anyone’s minds that these things could crash?<<

Yea, no kidding. You’da thunk the folks building this thing would have placed some sort of phosphorus charge or similar destructive mechanism.

After all, it's only our sensitive stealth composite material, data transmission capability and advanced optics.

Geezzz

Political Correctness has turned the once mighty U.S. to a pack of whipped dogs.

November of 2012 is so far away that I can’t even see it.

Obama is an effing COWARD!

Exactly. A brave man does not hesitate to send in others to fight.

We should have dropped a couple of 2000 pounders on it and then later said what had been done to protect the aircraft and secrets. It’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. BS takes too long to make a decision (he needs days when seconds count).

Iranians have been supplying weapons and giving direct support to our enemies in both Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are worried about making them mad?

“We already know that the design did not include the really secret stealth stuff.”

How do we know that? I’ve read conflicting reports on this drone.
We’ve lost a drone or 2 before over Iran and it was no big deal. This time, they thought about a covert operation to get it back. Sounds to me like this was no ordinary drone.

I agree that we did not let something vital into Perisans hands. I believe it was a ruse, but who can be sure when the feds lie about everything and anything?

However I have blind faith (air force brat)
that our space based weapons rule the skys. I dont now if the command will support we the people or the monarchy, all I can do is pray for Gods will.

One thing is for sure IMO. War is on our doorsteps, not just on our southern border, but brutal hardships and the horrors of war will no longer be a “lets buy something at the mall to support the troops.
It will be all over America

Sounds like a good decision to me......

//////////////

...”A U.S. satellite quickly pinpointed the downed drone, which apparently sustained significant damage, the senior official said.

“The Iranians have a pile of rubble and are trying to figure what they have and what to do with it,” the senior U.S. official said. The drone crashed solely because its guidance system failed, the official said. Officials confirmed to CNN it was an RQ-170 drone that was lost.

Another U.S. official confirmed that when the drone crashed, the United States briefly considered all potential options for retrieving the aircraft or bombing the wreckage, but those ideas were quickly discarded as impractical...”

Why are they using drones for recon when spy satellites could do the job?

I’m hoping this is a “trojan” drone.

-——How do we know that?——

Well of course we don’t really know anything for certain. Since everybody lies we do not know that what we think we know is true

There was a report yesterday or the day before that the B2 like drone had been cleansed of the secret stealth design features and listed a few of them.

The report was here on Free Republic

“Why are they using drones for recon when spy satellites could do the job?”

The enemy knows when the satellites are overhead and cover up.

Cloudy weather.

In the case of Iran, they are doing a lot of digging and building into mountain sides and UAV’s offer a side view.

Well, we’re building a nice cover story. The Iranians have been complaining about UAV’s for some time. If we knew the location of the downed UAV, we could easily sent ordinance down range to crater it, with out detection.
