In 1870 Massachusetts passed laws limiting women and children to at most 10 hours a day of labor (and requiring at least two exits from any room where more than five people worked). It’s been downhill ever since.

"Most of these schools ought to get rid of the unionized janitors, have one master janitor and pay local students to take care of the school. The kids would actually do work, they would have cash, they would have pride in the schools, they'd begin the process of rising."

That's good advice, right there. I started earning money through babysitting at age 11. In high school, I worked two jobs on the weekends. It's important to learn how to earn and manage your money when you're young. In homeschool cooperatives, teens and younger children help with cleanup, and sometimes teens assist in (or even run) classes, so allowing teens to have janitorial jobs at schools doesn't sound like a bad idea.

That said, there don't seem to be as many jobs available for young people today. Adults have been taking jobs that kids and teens used to have - like newspaper delivery. And, increasingly, the nanny-state laws "protecting" young people hold them back, which is the point Gingrich is making, I guess. I'm not a big fan of Gingrich, but I agree with him here.

This whole Newt pile on has become beyond ridiculous. I can’t believe Jim is letting it go on like this.

Your unbridled hatred of Newt is keeping you from praising him. Had this come from Cain, you would be calling it the greatest concept since 9-9-9.

My first paying job was when I was about 8, delivering a weekly paper. At 9, I was working at my mother’s newspaper. I had a regular paper-route with over 120 houses, that I delivered either on foot, bicycle, or horseback, from 11 until I turned 16, and then immediatly switched to jobs that paid an hourly wage. I paid for all of my vehicles, thier gas, maintenance, and insurance and respected them because they came from my own efforts.

My children did not work, and when they turned 15 1/2, I bought them thier first cars. I was constantly hit up for gas, and ended up paying thier insurance. When thier engines blew because they “forgot” to put oil in, and conveniently ignored the lights on the dash, they suddenly found that only through thier own efforts would they ever drive again. Pride of ownership comes with earning things, not from handouts. Our present situation with graphiti and gangs can be traced back to the generational shift in attitude about child labor.

It is obvious that no concept that comes from Newt will ever win your approval ... so what are you going to do when he becomes our nominee? Are you going to support him, or are you going to cast a 3rd party vote, or sit it out ... both of which will lead to Obama’s 2nd term. Would you prefer Mitt?

All the faux conservatives on here who are oh so happy to tear Newt a new one are nothing more than Obama shills or Romeny shills. Cain is NOT going to win, and the more he talks, the less conservative he sounds. He is in 3rd and dropping. Your ONLY choice is Newt, Mitt or Obama ... let that guide your posts going forward.
