Obama's Virginia Defeat (Cricket's chirping from the Lame Stream Media)
wall street journal ^ | 11/11/2011 | KIMBERLEY A. STRASSEL

Posted on 11/11/2011 8:50:16 AM PST by tobyhill

Of all the noise of this week's state election results, what mattered most for Election 2012 came out of Virginia. It was the sound of the air leaking out of the Plouffe plan.

That would be David Plouffe, President Obama's former campaign manager and current senior strategist, who is focused today on how to cobble together 270 electoral votes for re-election. That's proving tough, what with the economy hurting Mr. Obama in states like Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania that he won in 2008. The White House's response has been to pin its hopes on a more roundabout path to electoral victory, one based on the Southern and Western states Mr. Obama also claimed in 2008.

States like Virginia. Mr. Obama was the first Democrat to win Virginia since 1964; he beat John McCain by seven percentage points; and he did so on the strength of his appeal to Northern Virginia's many white-collar independents. Along with victories in North Carolina, Colorado and Nevada, the Obama Old Dominion win in 2008 inspired a flurry of stories about how Democrats had forever altered the political map.

So the White House is pouring resources into what Tim Kaine, the state's former Democratic governor, now pridefully refers to as Democrats' "New Dominion." The Obama campaign has held some 1,600 events in the state in the last half-year alone. Only last month Mr. Obama hopped a three-day bus trip through Virginia and North Carolina. Obama officials keep flocking to the state, and Tuesday's election was to offer the first indication of how these efforts are succeeding.

This should've told Plouffe something...

Good article, thanks for posting, toby.

Nice quote from it:

Elected state Democrats...couldn't distance themselves far enough from Mr. Obama in this race. Most refused to mention the president, to defend his policies, or to appear with him.

LOL! And they STILL LOST!

FWIW, Karl Rove wrote something earlier this week about the elections on Tuesday and gave a good assessment for conservatives, even WITH the loss of the Ohio issue. Of course, he said, the media will focus like perverts on that ONE...but overall, it wasn't a terrible night for conservatives.

Independents deserted Obama. Prince William and Loudon counties went big for Obama in 2008. This year they all went GOP. Bob McDonnell is a popular GOP Governor and his popularity helped the GOP to expand its House majority and to take control of the Senate. Obama does not have the popular Democratic Governor Tim Kaine who was a major asset to him in 2008. My prediction is he won’t win the Old Dominion State in 2012. It will go GOP.

Obummer should NEVER have won Virginia. However, I remain concerned about Ohio. It would be great if the GOP could win Pennsylvania - at last!

The Independents are killing the Democrats. Without them, Democrats can’t win. The Democrats in VA fled Obama but they still got slaughtered. And Larry Sabato says its not a 2012 bellweather? Dream on.

The Independents liked him. That’s why he carried the state in 2008. But the economy is what hurting him and Independents don’t like his leftist “spread the wealth around policies” Democratic stupidity is costing them votes with the middle. The moderates just don’t like him and his policies.

If Obama can’t win white collar Independents, he’s not going to do appreciably well with blue collar Democrats in OH and PA. Pouffle needs to go back to the drawing board. One thing is clear: the Democrats cannot allow the election to be a referendum on Obama. They have to find a way to change the subject and fast.

I'm not concerned about Ohio because as the election gets close then people will look around and see things actually worse since Obama took office and will abandon him in droves.

For too many the “Hope and Change” is still in their minds as a positive but that too will dissipate as they struggle to buy gas and food.

Look, folks, Larry Sabato & the rest of the lamestream media is going to blabber only the Obamabot line, period. The facts are: Last Tuesday, election day was no great victory for either the labor unions or the Democrat Party!!! I’ll list why? All the states in play this year wil be lost by Obama, VA, OH, WV, KY & MS!!!

- Virginia - No brainer, goes GOP
- Mississippi - No brainer, goes GOP
- Ohio - Goes GOP, Labor issue win, hollow, temporary victory. Real victory, massive defeat of Obamacare!!!
- West Virginia - Moderate Dem governor, but Pubbie state - Goes GOP, big time
- Kentucky - Moderate Dem governor, but Pubbie state - Goes GOP big time

End of story!!!

I hope So ! Out of all the swing states, I am concerned about Ohio. There is no way Obama is winning Virginia or Florida. Finally, there might be a real fight for PA(always democrats win but this time, it looks it might be different), Michigan(GOP has a good chance to flip it). North Carolina is very hard to predict. It all depends on Wake county. Colorado, Nevada and New mexico can be made easy for GOP if Marco Rubio is VP

And......if the Republicans nominate Herman Cain & Cain chooses Marco Rubio as his VP running mate, not only will Obama go down massively, but....the current Democrat Party will be on life support after the 2012 elections. If you folks out there don’t realize that millions of Blacks & Hispanic and other minorities will give Cain/Rubio a good percentage of their votes, you have been drinking too much kool-aid!!! This failed media set-up promoted by Obama and his Chicago mob is not going down well out the hustings!!! If Cain/Rubio gets 20-30% of minority votes, coupled with 60% of White voters both Obama and his Democrat party go down big time. This works also, with placing Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich in the mix!!! Why, in the Lord do you think Obama, Axelrod, Gloria Allred, Joel Bennett & the Washington Post, “dirt bags” tried to do in both Cain & Rubio!!! They failed miserably on both counts.

I want Pennsylvania to go GOP. For so many years, I have heard that the state would flip in the presidential and it doesn’t happen. Suppress the vote in Philly!

I just moved to VA, escaping Fartin’ Martin O’Malley’s soviet socialist republic on the Chesapeake.

Unhappily, in my state senate district a Bawney Fwank clone—a socialist who practices the same religion and sex as Bawney—got elected.

The GOP got over 200,000 votes more than the ‘Rats across all 40 senate; the ‘Rats controlled the redistricting in the senate, and came within 222 votes of a 21-19 win (they created 11 districts with 75%+ GOP, where the ‘Rats didn’t field a candidate; and only 4 ‘Rat districts in minority areas where the GOP didn’t field candidates). As it turned out, through the magic of computers, the ‘Rats created 19 safe seats for themselves (where they got at least 54% of the vote), and one district where they won by 1,000 votes out of 40,000+ cast. The GOP won the two seats they needed to get into a 20-20 tie by 650 votes and 222 votes.

Since the Lieutenant Governor is GOP Bill Bolling, and VA has a “strong lieutenant governor” who presides over the senate and breaks all ties, the GOP was able to win control.

In the House of Delegates, where the GOP drew the lines, they were able to win 8 seats; their caucus will include 67 GOP members plus Lacey Putney, a 50 year veteran of the House, who runs as an independent. There will be just 32 ‘Rats in the House. Out of 100 districts, there were only two “swing” districts; in one, we ousted the Minority Leader (Ward Armstrong); in the other, in the outer suburbs of northern Virginia, we won by 50 votes.
