Even though Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal just won re-election in a landslide victory, there is a growing rumbling of discontent statewide among conservatives. While Jindal is being touted nationwide as the next great hope for the Republican Party, there are folks in Louisiana who would beg to differ. How can that be with such an overwhelming mandate? In last week's election, Jindal carried all 64 of Louisiana's parishes. What could be wrong?
Conservative discontent with Jindal centers around several issues including his bungled handling of a legislative pay raise in 2008; his sham ethics reform; and now his alignment with 37-year Democrat (and recent Republican) John Alario, whom Jindal has endorsed for President of the State Senate, to name a few.
When Bobby Jindal ran for his first term in 2007, he issued this promise:
Prohibit Legislators from giving themselves pay raises that take effect before the subsequent elections.
Any increase in salary approved by the Legislature should take effect after the next election so the public can decide who deserves that compensation.
That promise quickly crumbled in 2008, when the Louisiana legislature voted itself a huge pay raise from $16,800 a year to $37,500. The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana called the pay raise "absurd":
The $34,000 proposed pay raise for legislators is absurd. The increase would bring Louisiana legislators' compensation to $70,000, which is 198 percent of the average pay for part-time legislatures across the nation and 102 percent of the average pay for full-time legislatures - including per diem amounts and expense allowances.
Not bad money for a part-time job. The Louisiana legislature meets for only about three months a year. To make matters worse, the bill would grant automatic pay raises in the future without legislative or voter approval.

This reads like a bitch and moan session to me. Essentially, here is what happened:
Jindal was going to be politically expedient about pay raises, but got blowback from the public and did the right thing.
He is working with a life-long political animal in his state who switched to the Republican party.
And his reform legislation was very good but not perfect, dammit.
Knowing ALL of this about Bobby Jindal, 66% of the voters re-elected him.
Repeatedly the author refers to conservative discontent, but the three cited sources of critcism are two “non-partisan” groups and the NEW YORK TIMES. The bitching about Bobby’s wife having an educational foundation was particularly galling.
Probably you are full of it.
That said, I am not exactly wild about Jindal, who at this point appears to be mostly about Jindal.
They got devorced and the last I read he move to egypt or one of the other countries around there. You can look it up and they both came here on student visas.
Ah. You are construing natural-born as born to citizens, rather than merely born in the country.
Both houses of the LA legislature are Republican-majority. Both houses are 4 year terms, and every seat is up for re-election next Tuesday, along with state legislative elections in NJ, VA, and MS.

I know that his parents came here on student visas and Bobby was born here. As for his father moving to Egypt, you should be the one providing the source (reliable please), not me.
The onus on providing the reliable link is on the one giving the information.
The election for the LA legislature (all-party primary) was already held the same day as the statewide races and the GOP won. There will be runoffs held shortly for the candidates that didn’t reach 50%.
Well, if you ask a Texan, you may be surprised at the answer. Anyone that sucks the head of a mud bug is doubtfully American. Then there's the "Who Dat" language barrier.
This is just a coincidence. Our republican operatives are just going overboard to destroy any nominee for president or vice president. What is wrong with these people?
Jindal is the only good thing to happen for Rick Perry. For all the stumbles of Rick, Jindal does the damage work in sunday shows.
Jindal will be a great vice president candidate and he will destroy joe biden. Also, Jindal will bring a nice executive experience, congressional experience to the ticket
The political climate of Louisiana was established almost single-handedly by Huey Long. It is a true tribute to Gov. Jindal’s political skills that he can be as conservative as he is and yet continue to survive in that lake.
Amar Jindal worked for Exxon in Baton Rouge for sometime and now works for USR Corp with locations in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and around the world. Don’t know about a divorce but rumors don’t need verification just throw them out.
Jindal is a RINO, a type-specimen Big-Government Republican. I’ve known the man for fifteen years.
He talks the talk as well as any politician and makes you believe he’s the second coming of Ronald Reagan, but he ain’t no movement conservative.
I live here and have followed and engaged in Louisiana politics all of my adult life and I know what I’m talking about.
How about posting the numbers of deficit reduction in the state? How about posting the number of business that as come to Louisiana because of Jindal? How about his leadership skill during the gulf spill?

It is now. But, you see, it was under French rule when Vattel wrote his book about natural-born citizens. Therefore, because Vattel trumps the 14th Amendment and all such, anybody born in Baton Rouge cannot be an NBC.
