War vet-turned-soap star J.R. Martinez earned one of the longest standing ovations in recent memory on Dancing with the Stars Monday when he opened up about the severe injuries he sustained while stationed in Iraq.
As part of personal story week, the All My Children star explained how he suffered burns to 40% of his body in 2003 after his Humvee hit a landmine while serving as an Army infantryman.
His emotional story was followed by a moving rumba with partner Karina Smirnoff which prompted a teary-eyed Carrie Ann Inaba to say you touched us all.
It was a touchy night, Martinez told reporters after the show.
It was really emotional. Karina was telling me in order to get to really that place that we wanted to get to and pay the tribute and honor the men and women and their families the way [we wanted to], I needed to be an open book tonight. I needed to be willing to go to that place and tap into that time in my life when it wasnt all pictures and fame and everyone caring, and I felt so alone.

JR with partner Karina Smirnoff...
If you would care to vote for JR tonight, his number on DWTS is 800-868-3410. He’s not only a good dancer, but he suffered greatly for his country, and he has a great attitude. You can vote 9 times from now until 10:30...ET
(not sure about other time zones)
J.R. before he was burned in Iraq...
I loved him on All My Children. :)
I loved him on All My Children. :)
I posted a thread with the video of his Rumba. He was great.
I’m very impressed with his whole attitude. He’s been through a lot, and I would like to see him win a lot of money on DWTS.
He hasn’t danced yet tonight.
J.R. really was great in the Rhumba. Apparently tonight they’re making him wait until the very end to dance. (Chaz hasn’t been on yet either.)
Me too...27 times...
They waited on Chaz because Cher is in the audience..Milking it for all it’s worth as fans watch to catch a glimpse of her . She tweeted that she was going.
Rickie Lake and Derek were very good.
Derek is already crowned by the ABC powers that be...BUT... JR may cause an upset.
How in the world did Chaz get a ‘21’??
J.R is my favorite. I hope he wins the mirror ball!
I agree, but the judges are giving Derek the best scores, and they are afraid to criticize Chaz.
Me too! As a fan of AMC I was saddened that the show was canceled. He was one of the main reasons why I watched. He is a very talented actor and a hero to us all. God Bless him!
ABC is gonna milk him/her all the way to the end
