Cain says he's ready for questions about "Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan"

In a novel attempt at lowering expectations, Republican candidate Herman Cain told an interviewer recently that he plans to simply answer "I don't know" if he is asked "gotcha" questions by reporters covering his campaign for president. "I'm ready for the 'gotcha' questions and they're already starting to come," Cain said. "And when they ask me who is the president of Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan, I'm going to say you know, I don't know. Do you know?"

Cain replied, "I'm ready for the 'gotcha' questions and they're already starting to come. And when they ask me, 'Who is the president of Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan?' I'm going to say you know, 'I don't know. Do you know?' And then I'm going to say, 'How's that going to create one job?' I want to focus on the top priorities of this country. That's what leaders do.

Cain needs to remember he's auditioning for president, commander-in-chief, and leader of the free world--not comedian-in-chief. He needs to know some of this stuff.

Some of this stuff, perhaps. Such as knowing that there is a country called Elbonia. However, without a specific need, he shouldn't eagerly study the daily Elbonian political struggle. Elbonian Prime Ministers can come and go on a daily basis. Why should anyone waste his time on keeping track of that? If the country is important enough then perhaps someone in State Department should be allocated to those details.

The President should worry about important things, not about trivia. Most important problems that the country faces are defined in very simple terms - the work ethic, the entitlement mentality, the US Dollar, the foreign entanglements. A thinker like Michel de Montaigne would be able to help here even without knowing who is the current dictator of this or that 3rd world dump.

I’m beginning to like him more everyday. I saw him speak at the rightonline conference in LV last year and was impressed by him then.

Yep. Talk to the PEOPLE, Mr. Cain.

Let em laugh.

Stay on point.

Seems to remind me a bit of another prez with a great sense of humor...though I don’t think the ‘in crowd’ can get away with the ‘amiable dunce’ meme for this one.

"He needs to know some of this stuff."

Okay, Mr. Political Science Professor, who IS the President of Ubeki-beki-beki-stan-stan?

What information do you have that he does NOT know something that he should, and is considered relevant.

I seem to remember a certain non-running candidate who was considered by supporters as intellectually superior for not playing the gotcha game.

Are you one of those?

Don’t forget how in 2000 Algore rattled off all the names of all the presidents of all the Central Asian ‘stans because he really thought it made him look smarter than GWB.

I was deployed to Uzbekistan and lots of folks couldn’t tell them apart and asked, Whatsyourfavoritestan?

One staff officer called the locals “You-becks” and the country “Youbeckistan”. However, we were all glad we were in Uzbekistan and not Afghanistan, that’s for a fact.

Anyway, Herman Cain probably knows more about Central Asian nations than the Anointed One. Heck he came close with the name.

I suggest you do a “Herman Cain” search on Free Republic and see how Cain has been hitting every the issues of the day, from economics, to foreign policy to the protestors, both here and abroad.

He has been receiving foreign policy briefings since this summer. You should need to listen to his Value Voters speech where he shows he CAN talk about foreign policy and Iran, as well as interview with Morris. His new communications director is JD Gordon (former Pentagon/Rumsfeld spokesperson)

Cain has his degree in Math, his Masters in Computer Science and worked for 6 years in missile ballistics/trajectory for the Dept of the Navy. It isn’t like he isn’t capable of knowing information. Most people know this

His *point* is, no matter how much a person prepares, the mainstream media could find some obscure detail to ask, that 99% of the population, including the other candidates, wouldn’t know.

PS
Another great reply would be; “I don’t know the pres. of whogivesadamstan, but I DO know there’s not 57 states.”

(something with ‘corpse’ in it might do too, I’m just not up to it now)

Answering the gotchas with ridicule of libs...where do I sign on for this?

RIDICULE them. Narcissists and libs - but I repeat myself - detest that most of all. As you were.

Here is something to think about; Herman Cain who truly was a virtual unknown had faith enough in himself to decide to run for President of the United States on his own. There was no Media hype/pressure/build-up about a possible run, there was no urging by members of the Party, no words spoken into his ear by party players, elites or pundits, not even a word of encouragement from the Republican Party of his home state only faith in himself. Now after months of being treated as being a inconsequential candidate the curious sideshow of a conservative black Republican, he is now in the top tier along with people of great party pull, of men with experienced political machines and the dollars to power them. He did that on his own with no help from anyone. Now think what a man with faith in himself like that could accomplish if given the chance.

The president of Uzbekistan is Islam Kasimov. I guess this makes me more qualified for president than Herman Cain.

Send your donations cash only, and large bills.

The first to send $100 I will make ambassador to Uzbekistan

If someone suddenly runs into the room where the President is working and says, “Boss! There’s a revolution in Uzbekistan!” then the President needs to set up an information session and discuss the matter with experts.

One of the worst problems with Zero’s administration is that almost everyone was appointed either because he was a useful corrupt political hack, or because he was a flaming Communist.

None of them know anything. They all run around in circles if something like this happens, and don’t even know who to consult. Or realize that they even NEED to consult.

Obama just says, “Don’t bother me. Can’t you see I’m in the middle of the seventh hole? Get Hillary to take care of it. Or Leon Panetta. Or . . . Isn’t that some sort of Muslim state? Ask Huma about it.”

Thank you. I’ll be here all week. Please don’t forget to tip the waitstaff :)

I’m series. Someone should start a ridicule thread for the sidebar. We know our comments are ‘lifted’, I’ve seen it on too many occasions to count.

If nothing else, FR is legend for its biting snark. This community could KILL...OOPS! I’m not on a list now am I?

This was the funniest thing I saw all day - the press can call it “lowering expectations” if they’re delusional enough not to realize he’s ridiculing them.

I just hope he knows what newspapers he reads. I would say, “What’s a newspaper?”
