The large number of candidates prohibits more than 30 second sound bite responses. During the Florida Presidency V event, we had the opportunity to spend substantially more time with the candidates than debate sound bites allowed. Herman Cain earned his straw poll win.

If you can't think of any other comparison between Herman Cain and Ronald Reagan, remember this: Herman Cain is the Great Communicator. He is absolutely captivating. He doesn't swagger. He isn't slick. He's got the goods.

As " weak" Governors are in Texas, I assume they're not required to do much negotiating. That's probably done in the "strong" legislature. Sad to say, but Perry looks like he'd not be a very good negotiator--debater if you will---who thinks well on his feet.

It appears to me that Perry's not fully into the job of winning the Presidency. He had to be tugged into the race. I believe he'd all but kicked off his boots on his retirement couch, but was enticed into one last try for a really big prize.

I believe he said he'd give it a try, using the style that carried the decade in Texas. That may not be enough for this job. I think he believes if the Rick Perry style doesn't work, so be it. He's not willing to work very hard at it. He'll happily head back to the couch.

Great points Nauti, I wrote this before the straw poll and yes Cain is a great choice. He came to an event in Oregon and spoke, even though I couldn’t make his speech people were very impressed. He could beat Obama and the debates would be worth the price of admission.
