Artist says Fighting Sioux emblem misunderstood by 'politically correct' people

GRAND FORKS – The image Bennett Brien created a dozen years ago, borne into a cauldron of zealous admiration and bitter controversy and destined apparently for retirement by the end of this year, should not be called a logo, the artist insists.

“It’s not a logo,” he said. “It’s a symbol.”

And the symbolism of the Native American man depicted in his design for the University of North Dakota has been misunderstood, he said.

This is a great article on the mindset of the Native American artist that created the UND sports logo that white liberals find offensive.

sports logo that white liberals find offensive.

Then they can root for the other team. But, Libtards are Stalinists at heart. Best to silence the opposition rather than talk to them.

All the old symbols were created by the White Man at about the same time in order to preserve the Indian Heritage which was waning.

We did a good thing!! Indians were famous for one thing...the business of warriors...

The idiot liberals have to get a life.

There are people who wish to eradicate all memory of the Indians so they pretend to be politically correct as they go about destroying the symbols and pictures.

Worse are those who want to take Indian words out of the American language. There aren't many of them, but they are as important as the others.

Looks pretty damn complimentary and flattering to me.

Only professional sh!t-disturbers among native Americans, could have trouble with that representation.

BTW, the second best logo in professional sports is the Chicago Blackhawks magnificent Indian, trailing only the spectacularly timeless St. Louis Cardinals birds on the bat; best manifested in the immaculate home whites.

“e business of warriors...”

That’s the problem. The liberals want the Indians to be portrayed as Kwai Chang Caine without the kung fu. Walking softly through the forest, petting squirrels and wishing a good morning to the trees as they live out their days avoiding meat, sweating in a lodge and smoking weed.

A Facebook friend of mine once said “We should be more like the Indians and live in harmony with nature” to which I responded “Yeah. And we could skin people alive if we capture them”.

UND should have picked the Fighting Whities mascot as a replacement just to tick off the NCAA and other Leftist Establishment organizations.

Of course, Indians suffer disproportionately from just about every social ill—from alcohol/drug abuse to unemployability. But what do the activists care about? Symbols of a past long gone.

Same thing happened here in Atlanta when some black activists noticed an old Confederate monument in a cemetery that is now in a black neighborhood. You would have thought the world was coming to an end. Meanwhile, nobody in their right mind would go walking through the nearby neighborhood, which is a drug-infested nest of criminality.

Yep.

Put that on a white uniform against the green grass of the ballfield on a warm summer day, with Jack Buck and Harry Carey behind the microphone, and you are in baseball heaven.

Thanks...way to throw my alma mater in here...

BTW the "faculty" member that designed this stupid idea ran for local office - got 23% of the vote...crushed by a very STRONG conservative, Scott Renfroe.

Haven't heard a peep from him since...

We lived in the Denver area when my son was young. After his childcare Halloween party we went to dinner. He was still in Indian costume with warpaint on his face (he was 2). He went around the corner of the restaurant before I could catch him and there were several Indians playing pool. In my politically correct previous life I apologized to the young men and told them he really, really wanted to go to the party as an Indian. They weren’t offended in the least! They actually invited him to be a member of their tribe! Political correctness has ruined our whimsical American spirit. No surprise that oppressive Governments have no happiness in them. We are quickly going that way.
