Michele Bachmann lied about attending family reunion, says her own mother: report
New York Daily News ^ | Tuesday, August 16th 2011 | Nina Mandell

Michele Bachmann's own mother ratted her out for skipping a family reunion - which the Tea Party darling blamed for making her late to an event in Iowa Sunday night.

Bachmann's mom, Jean Amble, and her two cousins told Politico Monday that the Minnesota congresswoman never showed up at the reunion, though hubby Marcus Bachmann and the couple's children did.

Yet when the candidate arrived late to the Black Hawk County Republican Party dinner Sunday night, she told Radio Iowa that she was late because "I had a family reunion … north of Waterloo today," Reuters reported.

Texas Governor Rick Perry was also at the event, Reuters said.

Bachmann had repeatedly talked about the family reunion throughout the weekend, Politico pointed out.

On Fox News Sunday she told host Chris Wallace that she was looking forward to seeing her family.

"We're having a big family reunion today in northeastern Iowa so I'll get to go and see all my relatives," she said.

The Des Moines Register also reported that Bachmann had spoken excitedly about attending the reunion - and noted her spokeswoman echoed the sentiment as well.

"Michele got so see family members in town and went to see a shut-in while in Waterloo," campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart told the newspaper.

The Register also reported that "Iowans - and reporters - have started to take note of Bachmann's late arrivals."

Something has rattled her -

Maybe she got a look at her internal polling and found out she is going to lose the majority of her support when Sarah gets in the race.

"She didn’t say she attended it, she said it was why she was late, which it very well could have been."

That is exactly what I was thinking when reading the article. She probably was getting the family ready and her share of the food for the gathering.

This is why congresscritters with zero executive experience get crunched in these races. They just aren’t ready for prime time.

I learned everything I need to know about governors and the presidency from Carter, Clinton and Bush.

Bachmann spokeswoman defends reunion comments:

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0811/Bachmann_spokeswoman_defends_reunion_comment.html?showall

“I’m not going to tell you details of who and where she met. She was meeting with family members at a different location. There was more than one family reunion that weekend, more than one family reunion that day. Her husband and kids went to one and she met with family members elsewhere.”

Umm, your comparing policies with executive experience. Who said I wanted a liberal or RINO governor?

Yeah, here is another one where Bachmann sounds like a ditz.

Umm, your comparing policies with executive experience.

No, I'm comparing presidents with "executive" experience as governors with the statement that suggests you support a presidential candidate who has "executive" experience as a governor.

Historically, it seems to be a strong negative for a president to have executive experience as a governor. Mostly, but not always, bad presidents. So when I see someone who claims to only support candidates with executive experience, and most of the candidates who claim this were/are governors, I have to point out that this is a very poor indicator of who will become a good president.

LOL...she can be happy that Rick Perry didn’t know about her family reunion, or he’d have been there shakin’ their hands and gittin’ their votes.

The pathetic writer practically made it sound like Rick Perry attended the Family Reunion. Seriously, the entire article is about Bachmann and the reunion, and right in the middle they stick in a line about Rick Perry also being at the event.

As everyone knows: August 16th is the anniversary of Elvis’ death (in 1977).

Everyone? But for the news stories today, I had no idea that August 16th was the day that Elvis died. I just never got into the Elvis mania, so really could not care less.

Maybe Michelle is the same. If it was an ad libbed line, she should steer clear of things like that. If it was a prepared line, the writer and/or fact checkers should be fired.

WOW! What an incredible story!!!! I suppose she should just stop her campaign now; no use trying to keep going under the weight of a scandal of this nature!!

(I wonder, will we ever hear about the usurper's “family reunions?” I think not!)

Elvis (born 25th August) is not dead. Michelle was just a few days early.

See post 88. Reagan would appear to be the exception rather than the rule.

The media really hates Bachmann. It’s obvious who they are targeting.
