Arctic Ice Melt Could Pause for Several Years, Then Resume Again
Science Daily ^ | Aug. 12, 2011 | Science Daily

Although Arctic sea ice appears fated to melt away as the climate continues to warm, the ice may temporarily stabilize or somewhat expand at times over the next few decades, new research indicates.

The computer modeling study, by scientists at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, reinforces previous findings by other research teams that the level of Arctic sea ice loss observed in recent decades cannot be explained by natural causes alone, and that the ice will eventually disappear during summer if climate change continues.

But in an unexpected new result, the NCAR research team found that Arctic ice under current climate conditions is as likely to expand as it is to contract for periods of up to about a decade.

In short, nothing that happens can be used evidence either way.

10 years from now they will no longer be called weathermen you see near the end of the local news. They will be called Global Warming dairy reporters. LOL!

...or the Earth could explode

...or Michael Bay could actually make a respectable movie

...or all volcanoes on the planet could erupt simultaneously

...or the sky could suddenly turn a lovely shade of green

...or the people of the United States could actually wake up and realize that power in the hands of government is actually a very dangerous thing

Nah! That will never happen!

Following their line of thinking, I should be able to make ice cubes in my oven.

I just want to be sure i’ve got this straight. You are saying that when it’s cold, the ice will stop melting. And when it’s ,,,,, hotter,,, it will resume melting?

Whoa,,, i never really thought of it that way. Ok, is it just me,,, or is a conversation with a climate scientist sorta like talking to someone smoking some extra skunky Pineapple Express?

"Arctic Ice Melt Could Pause for Several Years, Then Resume Again"

Ya think? And here I thought it was exactly the same every year.

One would think the ‘warmers’ would be happy to hear of this, if they were honest.

Instead, look for them to downplay, or dispute this entirely....

In other news, it may be sunny the next few days, then it may rain. But then, it will become sunny. Until it rains again.

In short, nothing that happens can be used evidence either way.

No matter what happens, they can say, "We told you so." And climate change will still be in play.

Someone forgot to tell them that we aren't buying their garbage any more.

Another dishonest headline from a "science" news site.

The text say that the ice melting could reverse for severla years, not just "Pause."

Reality is that we'll probably never fully understand how the weather and climate of this planet work.

OTOH, the planet has survived for hundreds of millenia, and been subject to many huge traumatic changes. Man won't destroy this planet because this planet is too big and resilient to be significantly damaged by the actions of man.

This doesn't mean we should be wasteful or deliberately destructive. But we shouldn't obsess to the point of destroying our ecomonies and our lives either.

Saw a show on NatGeo that said that there was no ice on Earth during the dinosaurs.

I didn't know the dinosaurs had cars.

When dinosaurs left a carbon footprint it usually meant they stepped on some carbon-based life form. : /

Well of course. There is a Dem in the White House. The globull warming will let up because of this. The writing is on the wall for the next pres election, so I suspect the warming will begin again as soon as Madame President is sworn in.
