Obama says debt ceiling crisis hurt economy
Reuters ^ | 8-3-11

Posted on 08/03/2011 12:57:00 PM PDT by Justaham

The U.S. debt ceiling crisis had an unnecessary negative impact on the economy, President Barack Obama said on Wednesday, while a congressional impasse over aviation could cost the government $1 billion in lost revenues.

Obama signed legislation into law on Tuesday that would raise the U.S. debt ceiling and cut spending, averting a default hours before a deadline.

"The economy is still weakened, partly because of some things we couldn't control like the Japanese earthquake and the situation in Europe as well as the Arab Spring and its effect on oil prices," Obama told reporters at the White House at the beginning of a meeting with his Cabinet on Wednesday.

"Unfortunately the debt ceiling crisis over the last month, I think, has had an unnecessary negative impact on the economy ... as well," he said.

Obama said a disagreement in Congress that has led to a partial shutdown of federal aviation programs was another example of how work in Washington can have an adverse effect on the economy.

He urged lawmakers to settle their differences by the end of the week.

He’s an idiot. If there is to be an effect, we won’t know about if for at least three months, if not six. He really does assume everyone in the room is a blithering idiot.

One hopes it isn’t just projection, of course.

Guess the Wizards of Washington have finally decided that the Blame Bush meme was getting threadbare, so they had to come up with a new pitch.

....all I’m hearing so far is [crickets].....

The Boyz might find that this one is a tad bit more lame than the last.

Sounds like the aviation impasse is due to the dim Senate refusing to allow the house amendment to eliminate the insane stupid subsidy to small airports. Once again, the part of the government that does not work is the part dominated by inflexible dims that can’t adapt to the real fiscal environment, but continuing to live in denial. They will not bend, so they will break.

Airlines were collecting fees but not turning them over to the government as a result of the partial shutdown, which could lead to $1 billion in lost revenue, Obama said.

*******************************************************

I could swear I heard him say on an Audio that the fees amounted $200 million a week and represent a trillion dollar loss.

And I’m thinking WTF? No way those fees add up to those numbers.

You demeaned those who cautioned restraint.
You held press conferences and whined, and whined, and whined.
You have talked the economy into the ditch.
You have terrified business owners, homeowners and investors.
You have terrified the sick and the elderly.
You own the economy.

"He really does assume everyone in the room is a blithering idiot."

Unfortunately he's not far off the mark in that. So many Government educated citizens truly don't have a clue about the reality of any given situation. They actually believe the BS the MSM shoves down their throats on a daily basis. Remember news for most of these folks consists of a quick glance at the headlines or maybe a snippet or two from a sound byte. Obama and the Communists are all too aware of this and their comrades in the MSM make sure they put out this BS with that in mind.

Obama always plays the Blame Game. Everything hurts the economy, according to him. That is because he does not know what to do or how to fix it.

If we were being led well, no blame on the fighting over the debt limit, the earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, etc. would ever be needed. Our economic status used to be strong, and we could endure those things - and even be able to help other countries without feeling a crunch.

The Blame for our dead economy is OBAMA...period. It might have been injured before...but Obama killed it!

No argument from me, though I suspect that the issue really does boil down to whether he can convince more than half of the 20% in the middle that he’s got goodies for them and so should be confirmed. 40% of us are permanently alienated. 40% of us depend directly on his booty (shake yer booty, Obammy!). It’s the middle that makes the difference.

Only question: will enough of the enslaved vote to overcome the combination of the other two?

"The economy is still weakened, partly because of some things we couldn't control like the Japanese earthquake and the situation in Europe as well as the Arab Spring and its effect on oil prices," Obama told reporters at the White House at the beginning of a meeting with his Cabinet on Wednesday.

"Unfortunately the debt ceiling crisis over the last month, I think, has had an unnecessary negative impact on the economy ... as well," he said.

Which set does the pointless war in Libya we've been dragged into belong to? Things we couldn't control because the Euros decided to try to push Gadaffi out, or the one we could control because we decided to join them?
