CBS News: Debt deal could boost Obama in 2012
CBS "News" ^ | August 1, 2011 | By Robert Hendin

For crafting a complex last minute resolution to a crisis solely of its own making, no one in Washington should really feel good about the debt deal. While some on the right and many on the left are not happy with the deal, even President Obama and the congressional leaders he negotiated with have said it's not the perfect bill. But there's a possible silver lining in this debacle for the White House and Democrats.

Here's why: while it may look to many in his party as a raw deal, Mr. Obama succeeded in showing leadership in the end by brokering any deal to solve the crisis, showed he was willing to compromise and take less than he wanted, and showed he was serious about tackling the looming debt crisis facing the country.

House Republicans should send a small debt increase of $50B to the Senate to buy time for the House to modify/improve the Senate bill

Without a doubt this should happen. Stand up Tea Partiers. Don't let these skanks get away with bigger debt increases. If not then resign so we can elect some real cost cutters.

This closed door last second 'deal' stuff is much like the way TARP, the Obama stimulus and Obama-care were rammed through. The MSM and DC chattering class love it, but I see no reason why House Republicans should.

To MSM and Senators : 'Secret Deals forced on members'='bipartison-ship'='negotiation'='Washington Working'.

For once, See-BS ISN’T seeing BS.

BO was helped IMMENSELY by this deal. It kicks the can down the road PAST the 2012 elections, when having everything break out agains BEFORE the 2012 elections would have hurt him - A LOT.

The bill will come due LONG AFTER the consequences can help flush BO out of office.

ADDITIONALLY, a PROMISE of cuts down the road from a “Supercommittee” is ass empty as all the OTHER promises made by Congress in the past to be fiscally responsible.

Thanks Boner and McConnell - you screwed us good.

Wow, that didn’t take long — Congress hasn’t even voted yet and the MSM is already reversing itself to declare this a victory for Obama. I thought they would at least wait until our conservative leadership rammed this through the House on a day’s notice.

And we don’t know if it’s really over yet either.

Haven’t changed my tagline yet.

This bill is all fake cuts, except for the military, and tax increases(letting the Bush Tax Cuts expire)and a clear path to hyperinflation in the near term with Mr. Obama dictating Trillions in spending, crashing employment and job loss and, as Moodys et al have said, not a factor for any improvement in our debt rating which will give us increases in interest rate.
If this bill passes,it will be a tremendous victory for Mr. Obama.
Everyone else loses.

Thanks.

I agree TOTALLY with your assessment.

Tar and feathers are too good for the GOP traitors who conspired to create this abortion.
