I know exactly what you mean. I think it's the mushy middle independents that need the mugging though and have enough openness to actually learn something from this. If reality slaps them hard enough to wake them up the left will be an impotent minority without them.
The downside is the rest of us have to suffer right along with them.
That's true but by our nature I think we have more inner and outer resources to endure in bad times and an understanding of why it must be so. Pro-life and pro-liberty values are worth sacrificing for. They are not some nebulous hope-and-change, wing-and-a-prayer, pie-in-the-sky dreams of someday becoming angels dancing a polka on the head of a pin rather than the humans on a wild and wooly planet that we really are.

Every poll in the country consistently shows that the majority of people lean farther right than left. I have talked with more than a few genuine ‘indys’ and even some self-proclaimed Lefties over the years that claimed Dem-like beliefs. After a brief discussion where they agree with the majority of my very ‘Right’ views I always ask them why they claim to be left and agree with the basic Right platform.
Amazing how once people actually stop and critically think about the issues and how they really ‘feel’ about them, they most often root for our team.
