Senate GOP showing flexibility in debt fight (We don't need no steenking 'flexibility')

WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans are showing far more flexibility than their tea party-backed House colleagues as Washington policymakers seek to steer the government away from a first-ever default on its financial obligations.

As the House doubled down on a symbolic vote to condition any increase in the government's borrowing authority on congressional passage of a balanced budget constitutional amendment and a fresh wave of spending cuts, the warm reception by many Senate Republicans to a new bipartisan budget plan revealed a thawing in GOP attitudes on new tax revenues.

They are going to have a flexible career when we retire them to K Street.

The only "revenue" provisions I see in this bill so far are the closing of loopholes.

I don't see this as a problem if they are serious about lowering overall tax rates (and corporate tax rates to boot).

Of course, this plan will likely change once Durbin gets his dirty hands on it.

Senate Republicans are showing far more flexibility than their tea party-backed House colleagues...

Translation: the Senators are more willing to bend over and take it.

It’s the Senate that is wasting time on symbolic measures.

CCB has already passed the house.

And, momentum is gaining for its passage in the senate. That will leave obozo with the choice:

sign it and get a debt limit increase or
veto it and increase the intensity of the perceived crisis

Since he can only get people motivated by scaring them, my money is on a veto.

what’ll happen after the veto ... who knows

The Flexible GOP will bend as much as necessary to continue “business as usual” in DC. If they are willing to pass a bill with future spending cuts, why are they not willing to pass a bill with spending cuts NOW.

Wouldn't an Ubamacare waiver be considered a "loophole?"

Supposedly they've stopped giving those out.

Or that's what they said...

One loophole I recommend closing is the free use of the airwaves by TV & radio. Let them pay for the spectrum like cell phone companies.

What!? SeeBS, NothingButCrap, AllBullCrap, and CommunistNewsNetwork are against closing that loophole!? Too FREAKING bad!

The Gang of Six plan won’t even be in legislative form by Aug 2nd for a vote. That’s clearly wasting time on symbolic measures.

Cut Cap and Balance, take it or leave it! If you leave it, no debt ceiling increase.

Which therefore is, of course, the point. Anything to kick the can any distance down the road is the immediate goal.

That is what junkies do: they do what they must to get what they crave.

Supposedly they've stopped giving those out.

So taking them away from Ubama supporters who have already received them would indeed be "closing loopholes."

Is the balance portion of that a law or a constitutional amendment? If it’s a constitutional amendment and an integral part of the bill it cannot be signed by Obama. A constitutional amendment goes to the States for ratification if passed by both houses. The whole thing is a sham imo.

Rush was saying today that he thought Obama probably already had the papers on his desk to enact his supposed “right” to raise the debt ceiling without the approval of Congress. You know, like Bill Clinton “suggested”. - We should have been able to be rid of Clinton; and would have if the House managers had their way back during the impeachment - but NOOOOOOO . . the good ol’ boys country club, golfing buddies were just too “sophisticated” to stoop to anything so. . crass as removing A SITTING PRESIDENT. Ha! “SITTING” alright . . .
Sincerely, Crude Twinkie
