Regarding a balanced budget amendment I would caution everyone:

If ever enacted (not likely but-), the Left would use it to advance programmatic tax hikes into law whenever budgets are out of whack.

These would be tax hikes that would never have to be voted on. They’d take effect automatically.

You know I’ve been reading, various and yon, that this well intentioned Balanced Budget thing is fraught with problems.

The one you mentioned is new but interesting. I’m tempted to say that the pubs can just vote it down but what happens if the Dems own everything, which they just did?

Read some other pitfalls in it like how it can be “balanced” but what’s the punishment if it doesn’t end up right?

Thanks for this cause it’s important to not take any politician’s word for anything, Dem or Repub.

Getting re-elected is their first priority, not the greater good of thou or I.

I understand it would take a supermajority for tax hikes. There is nothing automatic about it any more than there would be an automatic cut in spending.
