A lot of us have called for no increases in the debt ceiling.I have been among those who called for such.

Problem is when you analyze what that truly entails it brings a whole bunch of other realities into play.

Here is an example of how things would have to be cut in order to get to a balanced budget.

My figures assume a 3.5 trillion current proposed budget with 2.2 trillion in revenues. It's an F2010 doc from

http://stuffedsuits.com

I could have used almost anything, anywhere. They are all roughly the same and the concept of what has to be cut is the same.

Could you use different cuts? Of course. But the outcome is the same--massive budget cuts are necessary to balance the budget without any debt ceiling increases.

Here is a sample budget of what cuts would be necessary for a balanced budget:

You need to get to 1.3 trillion in cuts to balance the budget:

1. Social security--cut 100 billion(you don't have to cut it but the money has to come from some where else)

2. Medicare--cut 200 billion(same story as above)

3.Unemployment Insurance--other, entitlements--350 billion

4. Defense--Cut--300 billion (once again the cuts have to come from some where)

5.Non-defense--discretionary--300 billion

6. discretionary one-time items--50 billion.

That gets you to 1.3 trillion in one year.

It also probably gets zero reelected since the DBM would have enough to cry about,we would be demonized nonstop forever, for at least a year.

He became so desperate he had to threaten to cut off grandma from her Social InSecurity if the Revolutionaries don’t surrender. There is no surrender in this battle which means grandma is going to have to lead the fight and let him know his threats to her security are nothing more than another Stalinist thug tactic and not going to work this time. This is no longer a debate about the raising the Debt Ceiling, this is the Battle of Trenton.

Good morning, Bray. Here is an excerpt fron an article by Mark Steyn on Obama's threat to cut off grandma.

When the 44th president took office, he made a decision that it was time for the already unsustainable levels of government spending finally to break the bounds of reality and frolic and gambol in the magical fairy kingdom of Spendaholica: This year, the federal government borrows 43 cents of every dollar it spends, a ratio that is unprecedented. Barack Obama would like this to be, as they say, “the new normal” — at least until that 43 cents creeps up a nickel or so, and the United States government is spending twice as much as it takes in, year in, year out, now and forever. If the Republicans refuse to go along with that, well, then the negotiations will collapse and, as he told Scott Pelley on CBS the other night, Gran’ma gets it. That monthly Social Security check? Fuhgeddabouddit. “I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven’t resolved this issue,” declared the president. “Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it.”

But hang on. I thought the Social Security checks came out of the famous “Social Security trust fund,” whose “trustees” assure us there’s currently $2.6 trillion in there. Which should be enough for the August 3rd check run, shouldn’t it? Golly, to listen to the president, you’d almost get the impression that, by the time you saw the padlock off the old Social Security lockbox, there’s nothing in there but a yellowing IOU and a couple of moths. Indeed, to listen to Obama, one might easily conclude that the whole rotten, stinking edifice of federal government is an accounting trick. And that can’t possibly be so, can it?"

I liked this quote from the same article:

Meanwhile, the World’s Greatest Orator bemoans the “intransigence” of Republicans. Okay, what’s your plan? Give us one actual program you’re willing to cut, right now. Oh, don’t worry, says Barack Obluffer. To demonstrate how serious he is, he’s offered to put on the table for fiscal year 2012 spending cuts of (stand well back now) $2 billion. That would be a lot in, say, Iceland or even Australia. Once upon a time it would have been a lot even in Washington. But today $2 billion is what the Brokest Nation in History borrows every ten hours. In other words, in less time than he spends sitting across the table negotiating his $2 billion cut, he’s already borrowed it all back. A negotiation with Obama is literally not worth the time.

One problem is that the two sides of the struggle
are not playing by the same rules. The law and IRS
do not even apply to the DNC and its politicians.

It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other."

This debt ceiling problem is no easy solution.

Zero has played us like a fiddle. First he bumps up spending 60% since he was selected, than he waits until the very last possible minute, declares a debt ceiling agreement is another emergency and than tells us don't dare disagree with me or there will be hell to pay.

Sounds more like a dictator than potus to me.

Either way the commies play this stuff all too well.

Makes me constantly wonder who loads the teleprompter since you know zero does not have the intellect/stones for that.

You know it’s bad when the Secret Service changes your call sign to Lame Duck One! Unnamed sources inside the White House are reporting that President Stringbean’s re-election numbers are so bad that they are thinking Ron Paul could beat him and if Palin gets into the race they could lose the House and Senate in veto proof majorities. His fundraising numbers are at 38% of where they should be as his friends have lost his phone number. They were expecting to get a sizable bump out of the vilification of Repubs over the debt ceiling only to have it backfire on him and dropping his internals to new lows.

Is this true?

Thanks, Bray...very positive today...we really have to keep our heads up, pray non-ceasing...have REAL hope and move forward.

Debt ceiling is complicated yet simple...not sure who to believe on raising it or not. EPA, NEA, Dept of Energy all should be nixed, but we can’t do that while the Great Commie Dictator is there.

Also, an angry, vengeful, dictator with the EPA and other agencies at his disposal is a very dangerous situation...not the average “lame duck” does this president make...

If we had real journalists to challenge the lies Obama tells, we could have a more balanced discussion of our economic predicament.

Good Morning, AB, ALL….

As always AB, thank you for doing this thread.

Beautiful weather here in the swamps of Delaware. They complain about the humidity and insert smile here. These people have obviously never lived in Baltimore, King City of all humidity that the swamps can’t even hope to compete.

So ….been busy last week, very busy. Past Sunday night I attended a little meeting of all of the EDC (Electoral District Committeemember) of my area for the Republican party. Don’t know how the GOP works in yon readers’ area, but here in the swamps, each “electoral district”...which is the place where you vote and includes everyone who votes there...has one elected county committee member. Then there is the RDC(representative district committeemember), which is the area covered by the county representative. Then there is the executive board, the Chair, Co-Chair, sec, treas….like that, who are elected by the EDC’s and RDC’s.

You must be appointed to become an EDC and the EDC’s in turn elect the RDC. The EDC, after nomination by the local guys (that was at my Sunday night meeting of the RDC and all the EDCs assigned to him or her) is then nominated at the county wide meeting. And I was nominated at the Monday night meeting. After one month, all of the nominees at the prior meeting are then voted in (gotta wait a month, that’s the rules.)

I had to stand up before both bodies and tell of my “qualifications” and experience, which is pretty minimal except, heh, I do post a lot on Freerepublic, which I did say….insert another smile here.

Seriously, I have worked the GOP office in nearby Georgetown and have in various ways been involved with the Sussex county GOP. I am quite qualified is what I’m saying here but go with me, it’s pretty easy to be elected in that volunteers are precious as with most organizations.

But I got a real good story about this will make you cry….later in the thread.

Anyway, bear with me, this is all BIG changes since when I first moved to Delaware and when Mike Castle controlled the GOP pretty much. The monthly meetings never had the voting people cordoned off so they could properly vote on motions. In fact, none of the so-called EDC’s even showed up and I, as active as I once was, didn’t even know there was such a setup.

The Sussex chair, a nice guy who I once admired, just ran the meetings, intro’d some elected guys….ladida, ladida. Mike Castle paid for the Georgetown GOP office and pretty much whatever Mike Castle wanted Mike Castle got.

After the debacle of an election last year, when our own GOP turned against our duly elected candidate, Christine O’Donnell, the Sussex county GOP revolted and for these past six months it’s been a roller coaster.

We’ve managed to get state chair Tom Ross outta there. We got the Sussex chair, a guy I once so like and with whom I spent many hours sitting in the dust-mote filled air of the local GOP office discussing politics...turned out to be a low down dirty traitor GOP Blue Blood Ruling Class.

We were sick and tired of Mike Castle and we voted him out in the primary. Hooboy, they really hated that. Most of the animosity directed at the candidate we legally elected in the primary was by, not the Democrats, but by our own local GOP Blue Blood Ruling class. The trashed her like they’ve done to a Democrat that they reach across the aisle to with perfectly coiffed head hairs and polished nails.

And they also trashed us, the local Sussex heathans, who dared to vote down their guy Castle….and Karl Rove was right in the midst of all this, just to remind.

Still these local people soldiered on, even when I gave up so I take little credit for this most magnificent revolution. I was their scribe and they loved me for that cause I can get the reader riled if of a mind. We had secret email lists and some public local political lists and there I was, typing away, I know y’all find that hard to believe.

They betrayed us and clung like pit bulls to their power. They had spies sign up to our email lists and brought in vicious parliamentarians. They gave interviews to the local liberal rags calling us awful names, accusing us of screaming like monkeys during meetings.

The Blue Bloods told us...go on, change the rules if you want. We had some issues with how the rules were so restrictive and damn, they were written in the 70’s. Hell we couldn’t even find them but we kept nagging.

But the local citizens didn’t back off. They met on many nights, writing and re-writing the rules, getting them passed, recruiting new EDC’s (over 90% of these positions were not even filled) and insuring they showed up to get everything done proper.

Guys, it was a thing of beauty and while I often threw in the proverbial towel...WE WON!

Last week’s monthly GOP meeting was truly a thing of beauty, like nothing I’d ever seen before and I’d attended many of those meeting.

Our new Chair is a fellow named Glen Urquhart, the guy who ran for Mike Castle’s seat in the House when Castle was running for Senator. Urquhart ran right along with Christine O’Donnell and lost by the same margin though Karl Rove will tell you that O’Donnell was a lousy candidate and that’s why she lost. Not true as Urquhart was a great candidate and he lost too as the Blue Blood GOP worked against both of these people, snotty, snooty, in your face, know better than us heathens nothing burgers they just wanting to be cool and with the in-crowd. This as they join the Democrat party in destroying our nation.

Our new co-chair was the Sussex county campaign chair for the O’Donnell campaign.

The voting members….FIVE ROWS OF THEM when maybe one or two showed up before, passed motions proper, Urquhart led the meeting.

I cried, folks. I almost sobbed tears of joy. THEY DID IT! Oh how they suffered. But THEY DID IT! You would have been proud.

More later as I’ve occupied your time enough, but there’s more….sure to make you cry.

My take on the Emmys announced this week, on a lighter note.

Yup, Wallace is back, looking all souped up.

Rep Jim Jordan and screaming partisan Van Hollen up first.

Jordan talking Cut Cap and Balance..common sense stuff. Van Hollen immediately LHAO to protect the socialist infrastructure.

Wallace asks about Aug 2 deadline. Says Van Hollen is referring to balancing the budget as “dangerous.”

Not only is there supposed to be a trust fund but they take 15% of our wages every month in SSI and another 7% in Medicare. Why can’t they use that money to pay granny?

Misogynist and RomneyBOT Chris Wallace returns to FOX.
Instead of a warning label, Wallace begins by saying he/FOX are
“fair and balanced”.

On the horrible economy:
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio is clear.

Rep. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md makes false statements
about what might happen in his dire fantasy.
He even claims Republicans are “dangerous” for wanting
to balance the budget.

Wallace says he will give Jordan a chance to respond
but then interupts when the discussion is going.

Wallace then pushes for the McConnell plan “B”
but neither side seems to want McConnell
and Obama’s private deal.

Wallace then pushes for the McConnell plan “B” again.
Will they vote for it? (FOX shows its bias as it reads off
of its script).

Wallace then says “Let’s stay on the McConnell plan “B”.
Neither side is interested.

Wallace pushes for the McConnell plan “B”.
He cannot believe it “won’t pass the House”.
They are not interested.

So, Wallace pushes for the McConnell plan “B”.
To each by name, he pushes it again.

FOX News: Wallace is back and ‘on script’.
FOX “News”: Biased for Obama, Soros, and Romney.
SSDD.

Jordan says McConnell plan DOA in House.

Cut Cap and Balance is the GOP plan and only plan out there.

Hussein and the RATs have offered no plan.

Van Hollen spewing the RATpoints: Republicans refuse to close corporate loopholes, won’t tax the rich...boo hoo hoo.

On Tuesday, Cantor provided details at the White House negotiating session about savings identified in the May-June bipartisan budget talks.
Obama has no plan as evidenced by this quote:

“Then Cantor asked Obama for details of the president’s plan. Obama reportedly said he shared his plan with Boehner and that Cantor should let Boehner talk. Boehner, though, was unaware of such details. White House spokesman Jay Carney won’t discuss what he calls “stuff that’s happening in the negotiating room.”

You know RG....first, thank you for that bit of wisdom. I know you’re right and believe it not, even the rest of us boobs out here in la-la know you’re right. Hell, even my son-in-law knows you’re right though he does think big corporate jet owners should pay more taxes when all he has is a car that doesn’t go over 43 mph and you must enter by climbing through the passenger window.

We understand that the big ticket expense items are....well, the big ticket expense items. We get this out here where mortgages routinely eat up 60% up our incomes.

SS recipients have already NOT received COLA raises two years in a row and there’s been little rioting in wheelchairs over this. Still and so, it didn’t match the requirements for a raise and so be it.

But we’ve got the EPA, we’ve got everyone in the WH getting some 60% wage increase, we got farmers getting paid for growing nothing, we’ve got pet projects for all the congress critters....THAT’S what the American people want looked at and seriously considered for reduction. I mean Obamer goes on about sacrifice, damn, that includes HE AND HIS BUDDIES!

You think?

Maybe we can’t draw pretty pictures of pies but we know there’s gazillions in waste and we don’t want to hear....”well cutting this won’t help.”

This “sacrificing” applies to everyone.

I mean, I’m part of a couple having serious economic issues. We sit and decide what has to be cut and we decide to keep the old clunker a few more years for lack of funds/to better save. Only I decide, hey, I should get that little fur coat cause, hell, it’s not like the cost of the coat will matter much in the larger theme of things.

So I should get my fur coat and husband should smile, right?

It don’t work that way.

Jordan referring to alleged spending cuts in the “out years” in exchange for tax increases now is the old “Lucy and Charlie Brown with the football” the American People aren’t falling for it.

Wallace just asked VH about Obama increasing the debt by 35%...VH spins vigorously.

Wallace, Rep Jordan indicates that the world won’t end on Aug 2nd if the debt ceiling isn’t raised.

“We have to do something however because they may lower the bond rating whether we increase the debt ceiling or not”

Jordan: “49 of 50 states have balanced budget amendment”

VH: “This will hurt every man woman and child in America”

Wallace loses control of debate, ends segment saying they are shaking hands off camera.

Thanks for the thread, AB!
ABC with Christiane and John Kyl, Kyl says Repub leaders have made it clear if all else fails.....we won’t put govt in default - mcconnell plan will be a go.

Christiane says poll after poll says Americans want a balanced approach to budget: spending cuts, and tax increases. John Kyl disagrees and quotes a poll.

Kyl pulls out a chart showing the increase in spending over time (under obama/dems). Spending is the problem.

Repub’s won’t make a deal with the president saying he’d be willing to “look at” cuts in the future (not now).

Raising taxes in a weak economy is the last thing we should do.
