To kteaton, Thank you for your response but I did not “adamantly” state clip is the correct term. As I wrote in the post, clip is the word used both by the the man in the barber shop and the police investigating. (I interviwed both on-scene off-camera.) If they (police & shooter) say he emptied his clip should I correct them at the shooting scene and say, “I’m sorry you actually emptied your magazine.” Same thing for “auto”, it’s the common term that was used on scene by Detroit Police and the man in the barber shop. Yes I understand the distinction of semi-auto and full-auto. As I wrote “clearly we are not discussing a full auto, Tommy Gun, etc.” Thanks for watching and thanks for your followup interest. I would like to have been there to see the reporter correct a cop on his use of firearm nomenclature.
But he is correct the term clip is commonly misused.
