Obama, Boehner set for Saturday golf outing
The Washington Times ^ | David R. Sands

“There is no game like golf: You go out with three friends, play 18 holes, and return with three enemies.” — Anonymous

Unlike, say, ping-pong with China and wrestling with Iran, golf doesn’t have much of a track record as a sport for bringing longtime adversaries together — which only adds another level of intrigue to Saturday’s long-anticipated round between President Obama and House Speaker John A. Boehner.

“I expect it could get interesting out there, like, when do you call a penalty stroke on the other guy or what are the rules for conceding putts,” said Nathan Presnal, general manager and head pro at Lake Presidential Golf Course in Upper Marlboro, Md.

“You tend to want to play golf with your friends, people you know you get along with or want to do business with,” Mr. Presnal said. “It could be a real good exercise in bipartisanship, or it may just tell us what we’re in for for the next few years.”

The Democratic president and the Republican speaker, with Vice President Joseph R. Biden and Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich rounding out the foursome, tee it up Saturday at an undisclosed location. Mr. Obama and Mr. Boehner both admit to being golf addicts, although even ardent Democratic partisans concede the Ohio Republican is the more experienced and accomplished player.

You are right. It allows Obama to say both sides golf. The more I see of Boehner, the more I think he is too easily led astray.

Besides, how much meaningful conversation can you have while playing golf if you are not already in each others confidence?

Dining together or even drinking a beer together would be much better.

........................I agree that scores should be made public.. but what can you expect from the Most Transparent President ever. It’s not like we don’t get a lot of good laughs already............................

The real scores, or the carded scores?

Clintoon was a well documented cheater: Who knows how Zer0 picks at his ball for a better lie - the media never joins him for a round - just shows stills of his girlie swing.

Boehner is bending over for a workover by the “Hate America” communist, POTUS Obama. And.....Biden, the dumbest buffoon in the universe!! Shame on Boehner. The Republican house caucus should fire him for consorting with the enemy of the state and country!!!

Is it just me or is probably a bad idea for the President and the first and second in line of succession to be in the same place at the same time? Next in line after them is Daniel Inouye who is not a natural born citizen so he can not be president. But conveniently after that is Hillary.

I'm praying for a lot more than rain.

I would guess between the two, if they play a full round of 18 holes, they will, between them both, SMOKE 1 PACK of cigarettes, or more.

That will be the major accomplishment for the day.

“I wonder if he does anything to help the First Tee program in Chicago...”
Of course he does! He sends the kids to the welfare office!!!

On to the Rory McIlroy final round victory walk. How good has this been to watch? Keep 2 things in mind. First he will break the all time record low score(272)with room to spare. The only way he doesn’t is by really putting it into cruise control and not worring about the other thing. As far as I can tell, only once as the US Open Champ shot all 4 rounds in the 60’s, Lee Janzen at Baltrsol in 1993. It hasen’t happened before or since but Rory will get this one too. He doesn’t have to push it hard and still can put a 69 up!!

Of course the press tries to make Rory nervous by bringing up the disaster at Augusta. Notice how cool and smooth he is in responding to it. This 22 year old has got the maturity of a 50 year old on and off the course.
If Lee or Y.E. push him, he’ll do enough to keep them at distance....

Let the people of Portbrush, Ulster and Ireland celebrate!!!!

1. Rory - Superb!
2. Comparisons to Tiger are way too early.
3. NBC gets a bad mark for their editing of the Pledge of Allegiance.
4. NBC gets another bad mark for making us endure Bob Costas once again. (I wonder how much they pay that midget for his stupid comments and questions once a year?)

5. I love this game!

Amen, bro. I would rather they kept "Under God" and omitted Bob Costas. And Johnny Miller.

1. Rory - Superb!

Saw him get his double bogey (at 18 on Fri.)

2. Comparisons to Tiger are way too early.

I'm not so sure. He was my pick, so obviously he didn't disappoint. I think he served notice this past week the same way Tiger did at the 1997 Masters.

3. NBC gets a bad mark for their editing of the Pledge of Allegiance.

NBC or the USGA? I think the USGA controls EVERYTHING at these tournaments. A number of things were decidedly worse this year IMHO:

1) No smoking anywhere in any grandstand. (first time SFAIK - This was my 6th Open, the last was two years ago) Cigars are part of golf!

2) The signs were terrible this year. They pointed to things like the corporate tents instead of pointing to things like the first tee, or any of the holes. (I saw only one sign, over two days of walking the entire course multiple times, that pointed to a distant part of the course.)

3) The website was a disgrace. Information was difficult to locate. (The groupings and tee times for Thursday and Friday were under "Scoring." Who knew?) The Flash interface SUCKS for everything except video. Scrolling scores was painfully slow when it didn't crash entirely. And do we really have to endure an IBM commercial for EVERY video?

4) And speaking of commercials, do we really need to be told how GREEN the USGA is?

5) What happened to the famous Open rough? (It looked much worse on TV BTW than it looked to me when I was there.) And going with relatively easy hole locations and soft greens on Sunday, I guess because of McIlroy's big lead, was a disgrace too.

He was my choice too. But he need about 12 more majors and at least 50 tournament wins before serious comparisons should begin.

What I enjoyed was his mature attitude and boyish personality. He looked like he pulled a shirt and pants out of the drawer, checked with mum to see if they matched and said, "Let's go"

With his died hair and plastic surgery pulled so tight his eyes bulge out, he looks like a Costas doll speaking with animation. Maybe he's a Jeff Dunham routine.
