Consumers' electric bills likely to spike as coal plants close (Necessarily skyrocket reminder!)
Chicago Trubune ^ | 06/11/11 | Julie Wernau

Consumers could see their electricity bills jump an estimated 40 to 60 percent in the next few years.

The reason: Pending environmental regulations will make coal-fired generating plants, which produce about half the nation's electricity, more expensive to operate. Many are expected to be shuttered.

The increases are expected to begin to appear in 2014, and policymakers already are scrambling to find cheap and reliable alternative power sources. If they are unsuccessful, consumers can expect further increases as more expensive forms of generation take on a greater share of the electricity load.

Along with the effort to force us all into electric cars, the price of electricity should go really high!

“policymakers already are scrambling to find cheap and reliable alternative power sources.”

The Washington communists have appointed themselves to run the power industry. If it doesn’t work, they are to blame for the result.

Small price to pay for free health care, strong unions, and more DNC money to play with.

While you are shivering in your house with the thermostat turned way down, take comfort in knowing that someone far more needy than you has their heat full blast and the windows open because it’s too freaking hot in their house all on your dime. That’s what spreading the wealth around means in practice. That’s reparations for the slaves you, your parents and your grandparents and maybe even no ancestors never kept. That’s your punishment for being a greedy American.

And if you voted for The Great Pretender, you gave him your blessing to treat you like dirt. Maybe that thought will keep you warm.

Gee. Just out of curiosity, what are Obama’s approval ratings these days? For some reason, the MSM hasn’t mentioned that subject lately, although for what possible reason I cannot guess.

This man hates us, he truly hates us. He hates the country, and he doesn't like the people much either. Has he done one solitary thing that has been to the benefit of the American people?

What we are looking at is the result of what happens when academics are actually put in charge of things. It is what happens, when we elect a President who doesn't like America, doesn't like Americans, and, doesn't like being an American.

Look at what happened in Texas earlier this year...rolling blackouts as some coal plants were shut down for maintenance and the windmills and remaining plants were not able to meet the demand during a cold snap. Texas authorities were even begging for electricity from Mexico. The same thing happened in February 2008 when virtually all Texas windmills were idled by a cold front. Blackouts were then narrowly averted because coal plants were still online. With Obama’s energy plans rolling blackouts will be the norm nationwide.

We are retiring this summer and purchasing a new property. we plan to install an alternative electrical system either solar or micro hydro as soon as we move in. If you can set up even a small system you will have some ability keep your lights on and your fridge cold when these rolling black outs start to hit. Unless Obama and the EPA are stopped its a sure thing. Forget the high prices. There just may not be enough power produced to go around at any price.

Here in the Pacific Northwest where hydroelectric power is (was) king we’re busy decommissioning dams in favor of windmills.

A proven, reliable, cheap, sustainable energy source demonized by eco-nazi’s giving way to an expensive, intermittent, unreliable (did I say expensive?!) gimmick.

Perhaps we should burn liberals to keep warm.

This SOB is evil. All the pain is due to take place after this prick leaves town.

Thousands of lower income people, or folks on fixed incomes will die from heat or cold by his hand.

“Under my plan of a cap-and-trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket,” Obama told the Chronicle . “Coal-powered plants, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.” Barrack Obama, January 2008, San Francisco Chronicle

If you haven't already seen this, take the time to read (or at least bookmark so you can come back to it) this account of a husband & wife who constructed an off-grid home:

Going Off Grid in East Tennessee

They made lots of mistakes - and revealed how & why they were errors - and posted diary-style their progress. It covers a couple of years so don't expect to complete it in one sitting, but I found it fascinating.
