Why Would Huma Abedin Stand by Anthony Weiner?
COMMENTARY | The train wreck that is Anthony Weiner just may have an 11th hour derailment. The congressman, caught sending lewd text messages and photos to women, just found out that his wife, Huma Abedin, is pregnant with their first child. Abedin is standing by her man, according to Yahoo! News.
It probably won't be enough to prevent Weiner's resignation. Politico reports House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has called for a thorough investigation into Weiner's behavior. More sexting reports are coming to light. However, Huma sounds like a great gal to have in your corner when you've screwed up. I have to give her a lot of credit; it would not be an easy decision to make.
The Republicans will use the Weiner scandal as a political tool. Weiner didn't send X-rated texts and pictures because he is a Democrat any more than Arnold Schwarzenegger slept with his housekeeper because he is a Republican. Cheaters cheat because they have character flaws. Having power and prestige makes them more attractive, but they also fall harder and make a bigger splash.
The Times article "Why Powerful Men Behave Badly" explains Weiner well. For powerful men, sex becomes a status symbol, a power tool, part of "the job." Along with doctors, lawyers, teachers, police officers and celebrities, politicians have an elevated clout level not always merited. They get dazzled by their own light and believe that they are invincible.

There are two possibilities. One: She loves him and Two: He is her ticket to fame and fortune.
I can’t think of any other reasons unless he has blackmail material on her. If he does, she probably has even more on him.

It's important to remember that Huma Abedin did not marry Anthony Weiner. She married Anthony Weiner (D-NY), and will do whatever it takes to keep him in office even if it means constructing a fictional "happy marriage" with him and humiliating herself in public.
Once his political career ends, she'll drop him like a pair of old socks and the sham marriage will reach the end of the tracks. See Tipper Gore, Elizabeth Edwards and Maria Shriver as perfect examples of how these craven, pathologically ambitious losers operate.

I think doing whatever it takes goes even further. I do not believe she is pregnant. I think this story is concocted to garner sympathy. Whenever the heat really starts to build up they will play sympathy card number 2-she suffers a miscarriage from the stress.

i figured weiner married here in part due to her hillary connection - hillary may still become president someday, and is one of the most powerful people in the government. having her long-time aide/chief of staff as a wife is an asset that really cannot be understated in terms of his long-term political ambitions, plus his connections/graft/whatever now.
I drew a blank on why she married him, may be emotional reasons (attraction) because as far as I can tell, unless hillary just pays her nothing she should already be set for life. If she was motivated for long-term security reasons, weiner probably seemed a safe bet, congressman in a safe district plus whatever other potential he was perceived to have. This would be ironic if it was part of her interest, because he is about to be out of public life for decades if not forever.
