Not really. I just finished reading Paul Johnson's biography of Washington (quite short, but really excellent). After the Revolutionary War and until his death, Washington's MANY economic activities had made him one of the two or three richest men in the nation. On that scale, Mount Vernon is quite a modest home (as Washington was modest, himself).
