Netanyahu speaks as America’s patriarch. Sarah Palin prepares to enter.
The Hill ^ | May 25, 2011 | Bernie Quigley

Posted on 05/25/2011 6:40:26 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The century ahead could be seen to have taken shape this past week with President Obama’s stunning claim — a wish, really — that Israel repeal 50 years of history and return to its indefensible 1967 borders. It was followed by an address yesterday by Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that shook the halls of Congress. Obama then, traveling in Europe, where he feels most comfortable, brought forth an op-ed in The Times of London with England’s Prime Minister David Cameron, calling the “Arab Spring” a situation similar to the fall of the Soviet Union, and comparing themselves to be the modern-day Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan. Possibly this helped Netanyahu. His speech was greeted with roaring applause and dozens of standing ovations. For the first time in my memory, and Israeli leader appeared as an authentic American patriarch; a strong and ancient Father Abraham here to speak — to intervene, perhaps — on our behalf.

This administration, which clearly takes its initiatives from Bono and pop culture mavens like Bob Geldof of The Boomtown Rats, should understand: We are not the world. We are Americans. We play football. They play soccer. In one way Cameron’s and Obama’s comparing the Arab uprisings to the fall of the Soviet Union two decades ago is correct. With the fall of the Soviet Union, the cat died of natural causes and the mice declared a revolution to have occurred. The same might be said of the movements in the Arab desert today. In fact, these movements are the final degeneration of states that flourished in marriages of harmony and contention hundreds of years ago but began to die around 1914, compartmentalized and crated today as new states with new ideas like The Boomtown Rats, but as writer Robert Christopher has quoted Japanese views on post-war Europe, they might merely be a bunch of restaurants.

America is a rising arc and today, it is clear, so is Israel. As we inherently feel England to be our ancestor, so we feel today about Israel in a way we have not felt before. Possibly because 9/11 has finally sunk in and we understand that we share a common enemy.

Two items related to that:

The Boston Globe reports the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Boston will vote on whether J Street, a fledging Jewish advocacy group that promotes vigorous U.S. actions to help create a Palestinian state, should be stripped of its membership. J Street is widely expected to be allowed to remain one of the 42 organizations represented on the council. But the discussion over J Street’s membership — and whether the group is truly “pro-Israel’’ — reflects a passionate debate among American Jews over the meaning of the term.

And Sarah Palin: Because Palin understands that we are not the world. But we are Israel. And Real Clear Politics reports that the Palins have in hand a two-hour-long, sweeping epic, a rough cut extolling Palin's governorship and laying to rest lingering questions about her controversial decision to resign from office with a year and a half left in her first term. It was screened privately for Sarah and Todd Palin last Wednesday in Arizona, “where Alaska's most famous couple has been rumored to have purchased a new home. When it premieres in Iowa next month, the film is poised to serve as a galvanizing prelude to Palin's prospective presidential campaign — an unconventional reintroduction to the nation that she and her political team have spent months eagerly anticipating, even as Beltway Republicans have largely concluded that she won't run.”

She could stand to do a good deal more preparing as far as I am concerned.

The Dufus in our White House needs far more than preparing, IMO.

Because of her glasses,it is hard to get a real good look at Sarah's eyes on TV.
About two weeks ago,she gave a routine interview on Fox News and I don't know if it was the lighting, the camera angle (an inch one way or the other can make a huge difference) or she was wearing a new prescription...

But I “SAW” her eyes for the first time and the overwhelming impression I got was of pure determination and a clear signal to opponents that she will end you.Her lips were going yadda but her eyes were going,”just you wait.”

My hypothesis will be proven if just when it really counts, she wears contacts.

Look at Hussein’s eyes and compare the evil that lurks there to other dictators in history. What do you see?

Mrs. 2ndDivisionVet is an optician and manager of a chain optical store. Her parent company (the largest eyewear manufacturer & retailer in the world) has had to come out with a line of “Sarah Palin” style frameless glasses for women, due to constant demand since 2008. They don’t call them that, of course, but if you ask, they’ll show them to you. They sell like griddle cakes at a lumberjack convention.

Lots of wishful thinking. I share it. But who will lead the U.S.? Who can survive the destruction that will be poured onto the head of the leader that aligns with the congress and the traditional alliances?

Arc of United States Ascendant? Doubt it.

But the right leader could change that. Is that Palin? I don’t know. She will have to earn that because she IS that leader, not because people wish it or she thinks she can fulfill that role.

It is an odd thing, the stars must align. A combination of divine providence and popular consent must coordinate to create something bigger than the individual.

Try imagining Milt Romney, Tiny Tim, Newt or one of the other drones putting up with the abuse, scorn and malevolence that Gov. Palin has dealt with since September 2008 and then rewrite your post.

But those glasses are like blinders—you can't see what she is thinking unless you look directly into her eyes and then in optimal light.
Perfect specs for a woman (females have more expressive eyes) politician,I suppose—nobody sees anything until I let them.
From the “blind spot” to the tear duct (unobstructed by the nose bridge,of course) is where one can read another’s expression—Palin glasses hide much of those areas.

It is still early.

Fred Thompson did not announce his candidacy until early Sept. ‘07.

His campaign was not successful not only because he came across as “not particularly interested in running for president”, but only jumped in at the urging of the establishment Republicans.

The establishment wanted Thompson to get in because they felt Thompson would fit the bill for the huge block Christian evangelical Republican voters.

He didn’t. And for good reasons.

Among those good reasons were the fact that Thompson fully supported Bush’s two-state non-solution Roadmap-Phased Plan. Bush himself repeated false Islamic propaganda when he refered to Judea and Samaria as “occupied Arab land”, which it isn’t.

And always sending Condi over there trying to pressure Israel into more appeasement concessions.

At that time Huckabee was the only GOP conservative who forcefully stated that Israel should not give up Judea and Samaria. Firmly opposed spliting apart Israel’s capital city of Jerusalem.

The support for Israel among conservative Christian evangelical Republican voters is well known.

They took note of the differences in the level of support for Israel among Huckabee and the other conservative candidates.

Hopefully Sarah will run.

Palin has the ability to unite and energize all Republican voters.

Except of course the establishment folks like Bush and Rove. They were hoping Mitch Daniels would run.

I will stand by my post. Think about the figures in history that become legend.

Churchill, Thatcher, Reagan, Constantine, Alexander, Justinian.

These guys or gals become bigger than themselves. Nobody can predict that. Nobody can make it happen. Clinton thought he was like that. Was he?

So I am saying we need a historical heavy weight to appear in order to revitalize the U.S. That kind of thing happens when a lot of disparate elements align. Nobody can make it happen. Nobody can wish it to happen.

Reagan had a plan. So did Justinian. But if events and divine providence had not backed up the person, they would be just another leader among many. Who can predict divine providence? I can’t. Harold Camping can’t. Can you?

I want to use a different analogy. Willie Nelson.

Willie Nelson, have you heard him sing? That man clearly cannot sing.

Does it matter? No. Willie Nelson just shows up. He IS Willie Nelson. Legend. Who can explain it. I can’t. Can you? LOL!

Enough said. Willie. You don’t even have to say his last name in the right context.

She could stand to do a good deal more preparing as far as I am concerned.

Have you ever watched a tall building being built? For the longest time, nothing seems to be happening because that time is spent building the foundation. Once that is finished, all of a sudden, the building seems to appear overnight. Don't assume just because you aren't seeing things happening with a Palin campaign that preparation isn't going on. The foundation is being built.

I met her up close and personal....glasses and all...and I can assure you that there is something very special about this woman....it is almost mystical...and I know I am biased but everyone who has met her has expressed pretty much that same feeling. She is absolutely beautiful in person as well as in her pictures. Her eyes are steady, bright, interesting and interested...in the person she is speaking with...impressive!
