Poll: George Allen leads Tim Kaine by double digits

A new poll shows former Sen. George Allen (R-Va.) ahead of Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine by double-digits in Virginia's 2012 Senate race.

Allen leads Kaine 45 percent to 32 percent with another 23 percent of voters undecided, according to numbers released Thursday from Roanoke University.

Kaine officially jumped into the race for the seat of retiring Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) earlier this week, setting up what could be one of 2012's marquee Senate match-ups. Allen still faces a Republican primary challenge from Tea Party activist Jamie Radtke.

The survey, which was taken before Kaine made his candidacy official, shows Allen with a lead among self-identified independents and Kaine leading among self-identified moderates.

The double digit lead for Allen in the Roanoke poll, though, is a stark difference from the result of a recent survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, which found Allen and Kaine in a dead heat. Roanoke's sample does skew more Republican.

The poll surveyed 437 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.7 percent.

What is the GOP leadership so afraid of? This is just more proof the the country is ready for a healthy dose of conservatism.

That’s encouraging. Great to hear, especially since Kaine is already well-known.

Kaine won because the Republicans nominated a candidate who believed those ever wise ‘advisers’ from California or new york that repubs hire to run their campaigns. Their advice is always to ignore the people that voted for the apparently conservative candidate in the primary. These people are dim wit white males or gun nuts or Evangelicals and can be safely ignored. To win the candidate has to be seen as a ‘moderate’. This is a very important word for ‘modern Republicans’ as only ‘moderates’ can win, they are repeatedly told. So Kaine's opponent ‘ran toward the center’ as his wise advisers instructed him to gather the votes of ‘women, minorities, and (very important) independents. This fellow was the former AJ of Va and went out of his way early on to stiff gun rights groups and announce if elected he would focus on enforcing and strengthening domestic abuse laws and collecting child support from those bad white males.

I told one of this fellows cheerleaders on this site his candidate would lose as the ‘bad white men’ would find something more important on election day than to vote for this limp noodle. He was outraged at disparagement of such a great and fine man. Kaine won. A true limited government Va type would have ended this silly asses career at that election. Hopefully Allen will this time.
PS: The wise advisers were well paid and flew back to LA or NYC to ready themselves for the next ‘modern Republican’s’ campaign.

I love this line....

“The double digit lead for Allen in the Roanoke poll, though, is a stark difference from the result of a recent survey from Democratic-leaning Public Policy Polling, which found Allen and Kaine in a dead heat. Roanoke’s sample does skew more Republican.”

Like PPP is not going to skew towards democrats? It’s a damn polling firm for Daily KOS...lol.
