One of the sneaky things they’ve been doing for some time now is keeping prices the same, or increasing by small increments, but making the package size smaller. That's accounted for in calculating the price indexes. If a 5oz can of tuna costs a dollar, and drops to 4oz but staying a dollar, BLS would record that as a 25% price increase.

True, but I'll bet there are a lot of people who don't notice that they're paying more for the same product.
