No it doesn't. It just reminds me that throughout the course of any human lifespan, there will be major natural disasters in some part of the world.
The tsunami in Japan is arguably less devastating that the storm surge from a major hurricane striking the Gulf Coast. The main difference being, with this tsunami, there was less warning than would be the case for an approaching Cat 3/4 hurricane.
Think Katrina, Hugo 1989, Camille 1969, Anchorage 1964, The 1923 Tokyo earthquake, San Francisco earthquake 1906, 1883 eruption of Krakatoa.
