Why worry about China's nuclear warheads?

What if one of them ends up going off at 1000 feet over San Francisco?

Gee just think before globalization all China had was strength in numbers that could easily be defeated by our superior weaponry and our finances were a lot better. Now they have a modern army capable of global warfare along with American jobs and they pretty much own us debt wise.

Actually the Chinese approach to nuclear weapons has been frightening in its sanity and efficiency. They didn't build a vast stockpile of thousands of very expensive weapons that were unlikely to be used. Instead they calculated how many would be required to deter the US and Russia and built that many, with a little reserve.

Look at it this way, if you wanted to destroy the US you would need a much larger arsenal. But you can deter the US with a handful of nukes. Just look at North Korea with probably less than 10 and no successful tests. If you took out the top 100 US cities you would completely wreck the country. And that is enough to keep us from interfering with China.

They don't have to win a nuclear war. Keep it conventional or better economic and they will win given time. They only need enough nukes to keep us from using ours. Any more than that would just be a waste of money for them.

Unfortunately this strategy won't work for the US. Unlike China our likely enemies, China and the Caliphate, are willing to see their populations devastated in exchange for victory. So we have to seek annihilation rather than devastation. Simply hitting the top 100 targets won't stop them. We have to be able to wipe them all out it order have a credible deterrent.
