Persuaded me -- I'm never driving into Seattle again. Nor patronizing its businesses.

Kostas Opa, I'm gonna miss ya but we have good ethnic restaurants out here on the Eastside where:
- we don't have to fight traffic to get there
- we don't have to pay new tolls on long-existing bridges to get there, and
- we can park for free.

Time and money considered, you're now WAY too overpriced.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Seattle will slide off into the water along wyth Kaliforn(ikate)ya. Please don't leave that Needle on the beach, okay? Somebody might get hurt.

If you think $4 an hour is bad, try parking in downtown DC or Manhattan.

Same here... which is easy since they keep cutting back the ferry service, and driving over the Narrows bridge isn't cheap either. Screw em.

What are the on-street parking rates for DC, Manhattan, or Chicago?

I used to have a retail store in downtown Seattle. It is really fun having a business in a town that is openly hostile to free enterprise.

The ever worsening parking situation makes the long term prospects very dim.

In DC, you never really know what you will pay, as you usually run the risk of a hefty fine when you park on the street, even if it is "legal" to park.

$5/hour in Chicago’s Loop area. Rates scheduled to increase, but I don’t care to look it up right now.

That might reduce congestion and promote retail business, if travelers waste less time and gasoline cruising the streets looking for parking.

Promote retail business? What idiot came up with that justification? The whole reason shopping centers came into being was because they offered free parking.

“/Chicagoan laughs”

What’s Chicago charging these days, with it’s BRILLIANT move to lease out its parking meters without any control over rates?

The new mayor is even more anti-automobile than the last idiot mayor. He is actively taxing them out of existence.

It’s the Leftist Way.

That’s not enitirely true. The rate increases are set in the contract (I’m not defending the contract).

This will cause more businesses to fail which will cause less need for people to park. I wonder how many businesses will close their doors before they wake up and smell the coffee.

Bad reasoning. He's not taxing them out of existence, just out of the city limits. The cars, their drivers, and their drivers' dollars still exist - just not in Seattle.
