UC San Diego grad student scrambling to avoid deportation
Los Angeles Times ^ | December 19, 2010 | Stephen Ceasar

Mark Farrales, whose family sought political asylum when he was 10, is to be sent back to the Philippines. The Harvard alumnus hopes Congress will consider a private immigration bill. Mark Farrales figured his time in America could be up when he answered the door at his Reseda home to find two men standing there in black bulletproof vests emblazoned with three large white letters.

"It read ICE," he said. "My heart just sank."

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were there to arrest him for being in the country illegally.

Brought here by his parents as a child, the now-31-year-old Farrales faces imminent deportation back to the Philippines. His only hope appears to be for Congress to pass a private immigration bill that could grant him citizenship, a legal maneuver that is rarely successful.

Farrales arrived abruptly in the United States as a 10-year-old in 1990, just days after two alleged hit men shot his father twice in the head outside their home in Quezon City in the Philippines, he said in a telephone interview from the Mira Loma Detention Center in Lancaster.

His father, Jaime, who survived the attack, was a prominent lawyer who often spoke out against government corruption and had just announced a bid for congress.

Fearing for their lives, the family escaped to Los Angeles using visitor visas and sought political asylum. Jaime Farrales argued that the politicians he'd rallied against had tried to have him killed. "I never got to see my house again after that night," Mark Farrales said. "I was completely uprooted from my life there."

The agency contends that immigration courts have "consistently held that Mr. Farrales does not have legal basis to remain in the United States. He remains in ICE custody

Allow me to illuminate and ruminate.

TwoSwords: “If we eject illegals, they’l be pissed”

Translation: “I’m a liberal”

TwoSwords: “I WANT THEM GONE”

Translation: “You see, I’m a Conservative because I said “I WANT THEM GONE” despite the fact that I presented my liberal talking points. So, I’m one of you guys. So don’t question my argument (or lack thereof). Just take my word for it because, hey, Free Republic are only for serious people, and I’m serious.”

I believe this about sums it up.

You are a twit. I wasn’t arguing for illegals to stay here. I was stating that when they are deported they’ll be more dangerous. I want them gone. Do you understand that simple phrase? Too simple for you I guess. I’m trying to say that deporting them has consequences, twit.

“I think the troll is merely testing out a newer version of La Raza’s...”

He’s at the wrong site to be taking his ideology for a test drive at this location. Freepers Troll sensors are fairly accurate.

Of course enforcing the law has consequences - Virginia county trims government, cuts taxes by cracking down on illegal immigration

You lose credibility when you make specious arguments that are backed neither by fact nor by history.

Seems to me he and his Family have had 21 years to get his Citizenship taken care of.
With his American education, maybe he can get a job on the Chinese managed Panama Canal.

Great. What do we do for all the people who have been murdered, raped, robbed, been smashed in car wrecks by drunken illegals, or had their identities stolen by illegal aliens?

Speaking of Harvard...

Diversity is our STRENGTHTM.

NO cheers, unfortunately.

RE: your original post. I agree with it - a quick way to create new enemies with a very heavy grudge.
It will also bog up an already slow legal system of procedures. But...just perhaps...it may force a streamlining of the system. Or at least raise the level of awareness as to what is really a more effective way of dealing with the illegals already in place in the USA.

Sorry to see the PRE-MATURE E-ZOT-U-LATORS jump and run on this. A reflection of their lack of comprehension.

"Repurcussions" like a lower crime rate, fewer identity thefts, lower prostitution and drug events, less littering, schools and hospitals not going bankrupt, and better drivers on the road?

And more jobs and educational opportunities for US citizens at US companies and schools?

Count *me* in.

Cheers!

I WANT THEM GONE. JUST TRYING TO BE PRO-ACTIVE.

So did the French:

“All I was trying to say was they’re going to hate us more than ever, making their countries more of a threat.”

Allow me to be less oblique than the other posters.

That is the stupidest freaking comment I have ever heard.

Holy crap, Batman. They’re running completely away from what I said. We need to prepare against the countries we’re sending the immigrants back to, primarily Mexico. They can’t handle what they have. I’m all for sending them back but have a effing plan. The ones who have come after me either can’t read or deduct.

I’m trying to say that deporting them has consequences, twit.

This sounds like the exact same reason we're supposed to allow trolls on FR.

BTW, following your logic, do you mind if several FReepers sleep with your wife tonight? (If you say "no" they'll be pissed.)

Cheers!

TwoSwords said:

“All I was trying to say was they’re going to hate us more than ever, making their countries more of a threat”

“More” of a threat? As if they are less of a threat? Hate us “more”? Using this line of “reasoning”; if our enemies, who hate us by virtue of being our enemies in the first place, hate us less rather than more, than we don’t have to concern ourselves with less of a threat rather than more of a threat by our enemies(?) Pardon the hyperbole, but TwoSwords posts beg such scrutiny.

TwoSwords is about as clear as mud. Someone should tell him, but his ears and eyes may be too plugged up to realize this.

Psst....you might want to tone down your feigned outrage. You posted a whole lot of BS in one post (your first one on this thread) and some of us are merely pointing it out.
