UC San Diego grad student scrambling to avoid deportation
Los Angeles Times ^ | December 19, 2010 | Stephen Ceasar

Mark Farrales, whose family sought political asylum when he was 10, is to be sent back to the Philippines. The Harvard alumnus hopes Congress will consider a private immigration bill. Mark Farrales figured his time in America could be up when he answered the door at his Reseda home to find two men standing there in black bulletproof vests emblazoned with three large white letters.

"It read ICE," he said. "My heart just sank."

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were there to arrest him for being in the country illegally.

Brought here by his parents as a child, the now-31-year-old Farrales faces imminent deportation back to the Philippines. His only hope appears to be for Congress to pass a private immigration bill that could grant him citizenship, a legal maneuver that is rarely successful.

Farrales arrived abruptly in the United States as a 10-year-old in 1990, just days after two alleged hit men shot his father twice in the head outside their home in Quezon City in the Philippines, he said in a telephone interview from the Mira Loma Detention Center in Lancaster.

His father, Jaime, who survived the attack, was a prominent lawyer who often spoke out against government corruption and had just announced a bid for congress.

Fearing for their lives, the family escaped to Los Angeles using visitor visas and sought political asylum. Jaime Farrales argued that the politicians he'd rallied against had tried to have him killed. "I never got to see my house again after that night," Mark Farrales said. "I was completely uprooted from my life there."

The agency contends that immigration courts have "consistently held that Mr. Farrales does not have legal basis to remain in the United States. He remains in ICE custody

“There is a reason why my relatives never moved back to the Philippines.”

For me, that reason would be that those idiots began pasteurizing San Miguel beer back around 1972; they ruined the best beer in the world!!!

I’m 46. I’ve studied military history since I was 10. If you think we can fight all of our enemies at once then maybe you should go away. This site is for serious people.

“Even the older legal immigrant-to-citizenship Hispanics don’t like the illegals so we’re not against enforcing the law, but there are a lot of people here who were not responsible for it. We should show them some compassion. We need a new classification of “resident alien” based on a no-choice immigration status due to the actions of their parents.”

I guess this goes to the point of “do you want more or less of them?” Personally, I’m going to vote to deport in the case of a close choice; others (like you) sound as if you want to vote to keep in the case of a close choice. Nobody’s wrong in this but I prefer my choice.

“If we were able to send every illegal immigrant back to their place of origin we’ve made a whole lot of enemies on top of the ones that were already there. Our military isn’t invicible and if every...”

This is your typical liberal talking points. “Don’t anger our enemies or they’ll attack us.” This is a truck load of BS.

I find it interesting that you claim “my favorite subject is military history...” and yet you can’t recognize a military threat WITHIN our borders. Unlike legal immigrants, illegals have not sworn allegiance to this country. That widely known fact means that most, if not all illegal aliens, are a threat to our national security.

How about those illegals who are in our military? I guess they’re not a threat.

For someone who has apparently loved military history since he/she was 10, you seem to be incapable of recognizing the threat to our sovereignty and the very fabric of this country by way of illegal immigrants.

So you are afraid for us to enforce our laws because law breaking foreigners won’t like us? LOL!

“If you think we can fight all of our enemies at once then maybe you should go away.”

That’s the strangest argument I’ve read on this site re: amnesty. One learns new things every day.

This is ridculous. My whole point was that when they are ejected they’ll be pissed. I didn’t say I didn’t want it done. I was totally speaking from a military standpoint. I want them gone. All I was trying to say was that these same countries will have more inhabitants wanting our scalps. I’m not backing down to their ejection, I want it. All I’m saying is that if we’re successful in this they’l probably combine through the UN and put us in a pretty pinch. I WANT THEM GONE. JUST TRYING TO BE PRO-ACTIVE.

“This site is for serious people.”

The fact that you would say this speaks volumes. The fact that Freepers are serious about such topics is the very reason why your comments are being challenged. There seems to be a contradiction here; you want Freepers to take you seriously, and yet, when we take your words seriously, and challenge your political view, you become agitated.

You have given Freepers plausible reason to doubt your sincerity and motive on Free Republic.

LOL indeed

TwoSwords - your asinine statement presents intriguing possibilities /s

Do you think every person who hates the US a potential illegal immigrant? Maybe, we could cure their hate by merely allowing them to cross the border illegally and staying here? LMAO

“My whole point was that when they are ejected they’ll be pissed.”

And?.........

You continue to contradict yourself. You continue to dig a deeper hole. On the one hand, you say that if we deport the illegals, “they’ll be pissed.” You follow that lame a$& argument up with, “I WANT THEM GONE. JUST TRYING TO BE PRO-ACTIVE.”

So which is it? Furthermore, stop beating the “PRO-ACTIVE” drum. It’s meaningless.

You haven’t presented ONE strategy to combat the problem and threat of illegal immigration, namely, those already in this country. All you’ve said is that if we deport them, “they’ll be pissed”, but, “I WANT THEM GONE. JUST TRYING TO BE PRO-ACTIVE.”

I won’t waste anymore time replying to your comments. You can save your energy for another.

So it gets worse than the gangs of illegals and drug dealers storming our borders?

What are they going to do, stop exporting tortillas?

Here, let me repeat what you posted - you equated the expulsion of criminals to the simultaneous invasion of the US by a horde of former illegals. You then followed that up by claiming that this asinine argument was supported by your knowledge of military history.

I took your ridiculous argument one step further (mainly to spare you the trouble) and put forward a thesis that the cure for anti-America hate is as simple allowing the haters an easy way across the border. Get it?

I want them gone as much as you. All I was trying to say was they’re going to hate us more than ever, making their countries more of a threat. How that becomes me coddling them i’ll never know. I want them gone. I just think they’re going to come back at us all at once, militarily.

I think the troll is merely testing out a newer version of La Raza’s recent national security argument (”deporting criminals is dangerous to America’s national security”) - La Raza tried this one out, albeit unsuccessfully, during the recent Dream/Nightmare Act debate.
