Huckabee Building Mansion In Florida

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-AR), a 2008 presidential candidate and possible candidate again for 2012, is currently having a multi-million dollars mansion built in his new primary residence state of Florida:

The Arkansas Times reports:

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee is building a $3 million house on Blue Mountain Beach just east of Destin, Fla. He bought the lot on the famous sugar sand beach last year for $800,000 and this year took out a building permit for a house expected to cost $2.2 million. The three-story house will have 8,224 square feet of living space and 2,969 square feet of decks and porch. A pool or spa is also in the works.

Walton County tax records show Huckabee has a $2.8 [million] mortgage with Centennial Bank after paying off $250,000 of the land purchase. This is in addition to a $375,000 mortgage outstanding on his vacation home in North Little Rock's Shady Valley.

Isn’t it 3.175 million that he owes?

More power to him. I just don’t want him to waste space by running again. Though he ain’t the worst out there contemplating it.

Please make a note to get back to me at some future time after you do some research to back up your statement. I really want to know how much a year you pay out of your annual taxes to subsidize beachfront properties where you live, or, indeed, across the nation. I'm genuinely interested, because I have to pay it out of MY taxes, too, I guess,. Maybe your insurance man can let you know, or maybe some freeper agent could help out here.

I live in Florida and everyone in the state within X number of miles of the ocean, the gulf and certain waterways pay mandatory federal flood insurance through the wahzoo. I don't know about mortgage insurance being subsidized for private individuals, though....or how much it would cost me personally to subsidize these other folks. Thanks.

No one would care at all if he didn’t try to come off as a populist, man of the people type. He reminds me of Al Gore.

So here's this guy, born to poor working class parents, who grows up as an intelligent student, enters politics, finally becoming Arkansas governor 1996 to 2006, maybe earning $150k/year. Screws around for two years trying to run for President -with no independent income; loses; then gets a gig on TV for the past 1-1/2 years.

And he can afford a $3.5 milllion beachfront home??

What is it that I'm not understanding??

Am I just a schmuck who is jealous of the privileged, or has Huck been able to stuff a suitcase with cash from “unknown” sources??

Enquiring minds want to know!

So Huckabee wants to live here? Maybe that’s why his people keep calling me begging for money.

I think you’re forgetting something. The Arkansas State law enforcement personally delivered Bill’s perks as governor (women and blow). While he was governor of the state, any monetary benefit his office secured went to another member of his family, the resident ashtray chucker, Hillary Rodham.

Leni:

I am sorry that I don't have time and resources to quantify how much the taxpayers subsidize unwise beach construction. I realize that not just the middle class, but all classes pay this subsidy. I do not begrudge the rich, I would like to see them get richer, just as I would like to earn more myself.

However, I should not pay one red cent to subsidize someone's McMansion on the beach, or any where else. If some rich guy wants to build in a flood plane or where the waves will wash it away, let him pay the true cost of insurance, probably 50-100k per year on a $3 million home, not 10-20k per year with the federal flood loan subsidy.

When America was a land of plenty, we could afford to waste resources. Now, we should let the foolish pay for their folly.

My former congressman, Henry Brown (Republican) cut a deal with a developer to get a barrier island classified as not a barrier island, and when he was caught, pretended he did not know a developer was behind it.

For crying out loud, we have to watch the Republicans, too, they are all kleptos. The trouble is they (congress) has learned to steal legally.

Don't get me wrong, I am absolutely no fan of President Trainwreck or the corrupt mainstream media. They are far worse than most Republicans.

Florida is one of the few states where one can keep all of a homestead through bankruptcy. He obviously knows that the families of the 4 policemen killed by someone he, personally, had released from jail will need some college money for their many kids left without parents. Not to mention the 1000 or so other Arkansas FELONS that he sprung, that could also go on a killing spree any time.

Huck for President, yea, right.

I’m just wondering what Mikey would do with 8,000 square feet? What would any of these people do with 8,000 square feet.

I suppose he’d need a room for press conferences, and an auditorium for band concerts.

If I had 3 million dollars, I’d invest some of it and spend the rest traveling round the country.

I agree with you on retirement. Please, oh please, Mr. Huckabee, DO NOT RUN in 2012!

What’s wrong with building a nice house if he can afford it?...

Agreed. I would also add that some of the wealthiest people I've known have also been the most miserable.

Some of it is class envy, others are pointing out the abject vanity of a man unwilling to buy an existing estate...

Isn't freedom of choice what this country is all about?

Confused?

LOL. This charge from someone who can't tell if he's for DeMint or not. I mean, since no one can be trusted who ever supported Romney, he can't be your choice right? But somehow he is....

And Huckaphony can't be trusted but your god/man Duncan who can do no wrong endorsed him.

Confusion? Pissy's got in spades. But what else could you expect from a misogynistic house husband whose bitterness from having his candidate never break 1% in republican polls spills on to every thread..........
