My first thought is that he was trying to get the reaction that W got when he surprised the troops in Iraq. I think that was for a Thanksgiving, but I am uncertain. The difference is that W was there for the troops, 0 is there for himself.

You’re right, Obama is there for himself. He has made the troops wait for his appearance in the hall where they have gathered for over an hour. Bush would never had made the troops wait. Obama making the Troops wait is so disrespectful. Obama is an A$$.

Bush surprised the troops for Thanksgiving. He didn’t make them stand at attention and line up to pay homage to him being there. He even dished out the meal to the troops.
One thing you can be certain of ...Bush cared about the men and women of the military.
