A 7-month-old boy remains hospitalized Wednesday after being hit by a bullet from an assault rifle while in a room at a Westside motel.

According to state attorney's office, the shot was accidentally discharged from an AK-47 just before 3 a.m. at the Super 8 Motel on Youngerman Circle.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office told Channel 4 that the bullet grazed the baby's chest and struck his arm.

The boy was transported to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

The boy's parents, Justin Satterfield, 25, and Brandy Purvis, 24, were arrested and charged with child abuse. Satterfield was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Police said the two were fighting over the gun when it accidentally went off.

Real sweethearts. The AK-47 was more important to them than their child.

"Police said the two were fighting over the gun when it accidentally went off.

How does that work? None of mine fire on their own volition.

I know this isn't a funny story, really quite horrific, but darn, that made me laugh.

I’ll never give MY woman an AK-47. And if she wants one, I wouldn’t plan on having kids with her!

“How does that work? None of mine fire on their own volition.”

I dunno, but I read about evil self-firing guns that just “go off” on their own all the time. Maybe we need some exorcists? After all, these are clearly evil guns, and that means POSSESSED! /snark

Idiot journalists. Someone please post the journalists’ guide to AK-47s?

I once did an experiment with a hand gun I owned. I set it down and left it to its own devices for a year. All it did was protect the surface underneath it from dust and reflect light every ow and then.

The female has that pouty, angry, tiny mouth and a weird bulbous nose going. She's got that, "I'm a nice girl, you f'ing jackass", look on her face...
