Agree. Look at the story of Mutiny on the Bounty -- English seamen in love with Pacific Island natives and not wanting to leave them behind.

I’ll say this, someone coming to your village who is clearly not from the area but has the means and power to travel great distances is a “rock star” compared to the locals. It certainly isn’t hard to picture some woman going for a traveller.

Maybe it was an early fuller brush salesman.
