The discovery means that the female slave was in Europe five centuries before Christopher Columbus first paraded American Indians through the streets in Spain after his epic voyage of discovery in 1492... They found a genetric trait and have already determined that the native American was enslaved and producing babies. Were the babies also enslaved as in America? Is there a recorded history of Native American slaves in Iceland being sold 1000 years ago?

it’s funny the way they worded that title... “in only 80” um... have they got the DNA all every person in Iceland?
You would think they would use a percentage.

It looks like tax free cigarettes and casinos may soon be coming to Reykjavik.

Why do they ASSUME she was a “slave”????
She may have been smitten by the exotic, manly, Nordic type!
I mean, it happened with Pocahontas: She fell for John Rolfe; married him; moved to England; etc., why not 6 centuries beforehand as well?
To: Albion Wilde
Half the modern Iceland gene pool is Irish (slaves from Ireland).

Why are they assuming she was a slave or was kidnapped?
Perhaps a Norseman took a wife while on a voyage.

More likely some native American tribes likely originated in Europe, not Asia. No way the Cherokees came from Asia for instance.

Here's a pic of her.
I never did that as a kid. You can't prove it.

Is Amerindian DNA unsimilar to Greenland eskimo or arctic circle Lapps? The fact that Greenland had a thriving colony that traded with Iceland and Scandinavia during the Medieval Warm Age would make it likely for native Greenlanders to find their way to Iceland.
To: Albion Wilde
Very Euro-centric. Who’s to say she didn’t get their on her own without having to be kidnapped and enslaved. Perhaps a bunch of Native Americans “discovered” Iceland and left behind some of their DNA. Since there is no historic record, it is just as possible.

I can’t wait for the Viking Reparations Bill to be introduced.
Who’s gonna pay it? North America? Or Iceland?

One of my ancestors was from a town in Ireland conquered by Vikings. Guess I’d better get busy and write myself a reparations check.

Continuing the “Evil White European” stereotype that they always enslaved peace-loving, living-in-harmony-with-nature natives wherever they landed.

"Those Vikings got around!" Don't tell me! Now some Vikings will be looking to open a casino here based "Indian" blood rights.

Possible but also possible is that the Indian(s) went to Iceland on their own.
