Chinese Computer Trumps US One as World's Fastest
CNBC ^ | 10/28/10 | Ashlee Vance

A Chinese scientific research center has built the fastest supercomputer ever made, replacing the United States as maker of the swiftest machine, and giving China bragging rights as a technology superpower.

The computer, known as Tianhe-1A, has 1.4 times the horsepower of the current top computer, which is at a national laboratory in Tennessee, as measured by the standard test used to gauge how well the systems handle mathematical calculations, said Jack Dongarra, a University of Tennessee computer scientist who maintains the official supercomputer rankings.

Although the official list of the top 500 fastest machines, which comes out every six months, is not due to be completed by Mr.

Dongarra until next week, he said the Chinese computer “blows away the existing No. 1 machine.”

He added, “We don’t close the books until Nov.1, but I would say it is unlikely we will see a system that is faster.”

And it was dirty, treasonous, American politicians and CEOs that handed these rotten communist bastards every ounce of the technology US engineers had developed over decades.

...lets be fair, and compound it with the muslim outreach program.

Technology that America bought and paid for just given away.

But it talks funny and skews recipe search results in favor of fried dog.

LOL! It may be the most powerful computer known publically but I seriously doubt they can touch the stuff we have behind closed doors in places that “don’t exist”.

Yeah, but it runs DOS 23. Average uptime: three minutes.

“What is scary about this is that the U.S. dominance in high-performance computing is at risk,” said Wu-chun Feng, a supercomputing expert and professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.”

Yeah! Right.

In computing money = speed. If you are willing to throw enough money at the machine you can always make it go faster. China has cash coming out their rear end. So they did this as a PR stunt. We were building the worlds fastest when our computer companies were the ones who had gobs of cash to blow on PR stunts. Now that is all going to taxes.

I for one am unimpressed... so what ,, someone ties 1000 of the fastest processors together and claims to be fastest ,, then someone else ties 2000 of the same together and claims to be fastest. show me reliability , uptime and utility in the way of programs to use that power.

America acted stupidly in Nov 2008. Sadly the idiots who watch TV are easily manipulated by the elites.

You think the NSA has more powerful computers than academia and physics labs?

Wow..if so, I wish they could reveal them.

Not so fast there. Heark back to the warnings of one Duncan Hunter, endorsed by none other than Chuck Yeager about disinvestment in the Good Ole' USA. Offshoring takes it's toll. A lot of the technology probably was developed in China, home grown there. And don't be surprised when Inja surpassess all. They've been building their technology base, happily aided by all the OffWhoring from here to there.

It does not matter how anyone “gets” technology. The fact of the matter is that the batton of technological development has been slipping out of our hands for sometime now. It isn’t that the chinese are leaping ahead. I’ts that we have been slipping behind. Yesterday’s technology is old hat, technological development does not stand still, you need inventors and developers. If we invest in crappy education and prefer an ignorant mass of people so they can vote democrat this is what you get..

Thanks to American education I’m sure. But we’ll never hear that.
Also don’t fear, that sucker is going to blow up in about a week.
