WASHINGTON In the most favorable political environment for Republicans in decades, GOP chairman Michael Steele ordinarily might be lavished with praise for leading his party to the brink of a historic triumph.
Instead, he heads an organization that trails Democrats by $15 million in fundraising, is in debt and largely has been overshadowed by third-party groups that, in a few months, have raised almost as much as Republican National Committee has since January 2009.

Over all, Steele is in over his head, but I do appreciate it that he FINALLY seems to realize that it is not all about HIM!
I’m not going to worry about it for 10 more days.
The GOP is past the point of success hinging on the amount of contributions they take in.
I agree...Steele is solid conservative...he was trying to please everybody...lately, he’s been great
And if boehner doesn’t shut up he will be sitting in the back of the room. Not holding a gavel at the front.
There are, still, way too many RINOS from within the entire GOP, and I hope that there’s a foolproof, long-term strategy among conservatives, in general, on how to, successfully, put an end to RINO Republicanism! Its got to be done, for the long-term survival of the entire GOP!
I am not worrying about Steele until after the election. He needs to be a non issue until then.
Agreed. I suspect that all this sudden bubbling up of anti-Steele commentary in the Communist press is a sign that they are hoping to make trouble.
Let’s not worry about Steele until after the election. Then if the Good Old Boys can’t come around and start making sense, we can deal with them when the election is over.
Same with the Palin for president stuff that the Communist media tried to pump up last week. That can also wait until November 3rd, as Palin herself has said.
Agreed. Worrying about the GOP leadership now would be like the Phillies and Giants thinking about their off season moves.
No doubt about it. They ARE trying to distract and make trouble.
Any credit for gains the GOP makes this election cycle will be directed to:
1. tea party (lower case intentional) activism,
2. Rush Limbaugh and the conservative blogosphere, and last but far from least,
3. Barack Hussein Obama and his coterie of Socialist/Marxist/incompetents and the Democrat leadership of the House and Senate.
He would be if he had done anything. It seems anytime a tea party candidate came along he and the country club Republicans did everything to shut them down. The race in NY's 22nd district, Christine O'Donnell , Marco Rubio and Miller in Alaska come to mind. It's been either indifference in Rubio's and Miller's case, to outright hostility in the case of the DE Senate race and NY 22nd to neglect in the case of Palidino in NY's governor race.
“No doubt about it. They ARE trying to distract and make trouble.”
It’s the usually BS that comes right before the election. It’s not working anymore. I’m 100 percent focused on the real enemy and it isn’t Mr. Steele.
He at least got out of the way.
MICHAEL STEELE AND HIS COUNTRY CLUB BUDDIES KILLED EFFORTS TO REBRAND THE DEMOCRATS AS THE DEMOCRAT SOCIALIST PARY.
4 WORDS FOR STEELE; ON YOUR BIKE SUCKER
Steele is against a resolution renaming the Democratic Party.
RNC showdown over socialist resolution may be avoided

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby
Steele is against a resolution renaming the Democratic Party.
OXON HILL, Maryland (CNN) Members of the Republican National Committee appear to have reached a compromise that would let GOP leaders avoid a possible dispute over a controversial resolution that calls on Democrats to re-name their party the Democrat Socialist party.
Steele has come out against the resolution, calling it not an appropriate way to express our views on the issues of the day. One of Steeles allies on the committee, Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer(ANOTHER POS, SEE NEXT POST), told CNN the resolution is stupid and ridiculous.
However, New Jersey committeeman David Norcross, one of the sponsors of the resolution, told CNN the language is being massaged so that Steele and others on the committee will be more receptive.
The language is being changed so that the proposers and chairman Steele are on the same page, Norcross said.
He said that as of Tuesday afternoon, the chairman of the RNC Standing Committee on Resolutions had changed the language to condemn the Democrats march to socialism instead of talking about the Democrat Socialist party.
The change was made, Norcross said, so that members wouldnt have to fight about it, and I think everybody agreed.
Wisconsin GOP chairman Reince Priebus, another Steele ally, expressed confidence the proposal will be tweaked in the resolution committee, and that it should pass without issue.
Greer Apologizes To Obama For GOP Racism, Recants Critique Of Socialist Indoctrination School Speech

Former Florida Republican Party Chair Jim Greer
Florida’s school children are getting a lesson in how the political winds affect the political backbone today. Last year, Jim Greer, then the chair of the Florida Republican Party, was happy to, as he says now, “placate the extremists who dominate” the GOP and publicly accuse President Obama of orchestrating a socialist plot by addressing the nation’s public schools via video.
Today, he’s apologizing for ever saying any such thing, and calling members of his former party racist.
It seems that after a year which saw Greer get booted from the GOP and disgraced by scandal, he’s had a change of heart with it comes to the president using his office to encourage and inspire the nation’s pupils. In a statement sent to Florida reporters today, Greer completely apologizes to Obama for slamming his 2009 speech. Greer says the vitriol he threw Obama’s way — and the national kerfuffle it caused — was part of his efforts to appease the party’s extremes. (What’s more, Greer suggests that it’s now the GOP that’s promoting ugliness, saying that “many” Republicans “have racist views.”)
Unlike last year, Greer says his kids are excited about hearing Obama’s speech to schoolchildren today.
“My children and I look forward to the President’s speech,” Greer says.
His full statement, as published in the Orlando Sentinel today:
I wanted to send you my thoughts about the Obama speech to kids ...
“In the year since I issued a prepared statement regarding President Obama speaking to the Nation’s school children, I have learned a great deal about the party I so deeply loved and served. Unfortunately, I found that many within the GOP have racist views and I apologize to the President for my opposition to his speech last year and my efforts to placate the extremists who dominate our Party today. My children and I look forward to the President’s speech.”
Jim Greer
Many of the "third party" groups are past GOP donors so the money is still being raised. There isn't a person alive who would be "acceptable" as GOP Chairman in this climate. The important thing is we are winning. Let's tackle the problem of steeling the spine of the Republican party after the elections.
