Sarah Palin calls for Congress to defund NPR over Juan Williams’ firing
Daily Caller ^ | 10/21/10 | Caroline May -

In the wake of National Public Radio firing Juan Williams for comments he made about Muslims on “The O’Reilly Factor,” Sarah Palin took to her Facebook page Thursday afternoon to call for NPR’s defunding.

“National Public Radio is a public institution that directly or indirectly exists because the taxpayers fund it,” she wrote. “And what do we, the taxpayers, get for this? We get to witness Juan Williams being fired from NPR for merely speaking frankly about the very real threat this country faces from radical Islam.”

Palin acknowledged Williams’ past criticism of her, but asserted her devotion to free speech and the need for open and honest debate.

“Are we not allowed to say that Muslim terrorists have killed thousands of Americans and continue to plot the deaths of thousands more? Are we not allowed to say that there are Muslim states that aid and abet these fanatics? Are we not allowed to even debate the role that radical Islam plays in inciting this violence?” she posted.

Palin went on to write that it is now up to Congress to take away NPR’s funding and for President Obama to take notice and speak out.

“President Obama should make clear his commitment to free and honest discussion of the jihadist threat in our public debates – and Congress should make clear that unless NPR provides that public service, not one more dime,” she wrote.

“Wouldn’t it be a bitch for the Dem’s if we won both the House and Senate and totally defended NPR within the first six months of taking back control?”

A more likely scenario, given the history of our Repubs, is that any new congress critter elected will be relegated to the backroom of congress, not allowed on any committee, and shoved into the shadows until they can prove that they are “team players”, all the while McCain, Gramnesty and the other idiots with an R next to their name control the play book.

It is more likely that as soon as we take both house and senate, McCain will draft a bill to fund NPR for life, and while he’s at it, he will fund the NYTimes because they are ailing, and every other leftwing nutjob newspaper out there, and call it a “Republican Jobs Bill” or some such nonsense.

No, even if we win the house and senate, we still have some major house cleaning to do. We will not only be fighting the dems, but also fighting all the “Mavericks” that are entrenched in OUR government.

Sounds like a plan. De-funding NPR should be at the TOP of their list-! And pure poetic justice that Gov. Palin agrees-!

That would be nice. But my belief in the Republican party to do the conservative thing is very very weak at this point. Hopefully they'll get the memo.

But Sara, he’s letting them build a Mosque near Ground Zero. How free-speechie does he have to get? You just want to defund Cookie Monster and Mister Rogers.

The guarantee of free speech in this country is pretty much a joke when your economic survival can be threatened by these petty tyrants. The stranglehold that the politically correct have on our national discourse makes it nearly impossible to confront real problems, let alone find ways of solving them. Defunding NPR and PBS would be a salvo across the word nazis bow.

It shouldn’t be defunded over Juan Williams. It never should have been funded to start with.

Republican Demint has already introduced a Bill to defund NPR. I think he did this before anyone mentioned it like Rush did.

Many of you can't help it to blame the Republicans for every thing under the sun.You all sound exactly the same as the liberal media and other liberals as they hate Republicans.

We blame Republicans who compromise our lives, fortunes and futures away to Democrats. You don’t see Democrats “tweaking” around the edges - they go for it when they are in the majority. Until Republicans start doing the same, they will be criticized by those who want them to live up to their promises.

P> Name a single democrat elected politician that is for anything good like abolishing a government agency or deporting illegals, or against Amnesty. There are none. Oh yeah but you all say “It’s republicans that are the problem”. The media has brainwashed many.

You all will be devastated when Republicans win 100 seats in 2 weeks! Go Republican Demint for president! Go Republicans!

Deporting illegals should be the first priority.

De-funding the EPA should be the 2nd priority.

The EPA is destroying the economy. The EPA close the last mine in the USA.Now China has all the rare metals for manufactoring. The EPA is getting set to ban all manufacturing, power plants, even large office buildings or hotels etc.. No one knows about this. Look it up.

Actually they have to repeal laws to abolish the EPA.

The democrat Congress created the EPA.

NPR should be defunded and Republican Demint already has introduced a bill to do so. That is not a priority as illegals and the EPA are destroying the U.S..

It would wonderful!! How this tax-funded NPR abomination has continued for this long is stunning. It needs to stop, and maybe the Juan situation will be the impetus. God works in mysterious ways.

democrats , the socialist vermin are destroying the USA.

Just the EPA which a democrat Congress created is destroying the USA.

Democrats created almost all government agencies and mandatory programs like social security and medicare which alone these 2 have 99 trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities.

Name a single democrat elected politician that is for anything good like abolishing a government agency, deporting illegals? There are none.

Name all the agencies that Republicans created during their 12 years. I can't think of any non national defense agencies.

Republicans stopped Amnesty, and government healthcare. I suppose you would rather they had passed that. why did they stop that, cut taxes, 2 conservative justices etc.? why if they are socialist villains like the democrats are? you all are brainwashed by the liberal media.

why don't you all address that Republican Demint introduced a bill to defund NPR?

Your gripe about criticism of Republicans seems to come from the fact that you don’t know the difference between Republicans and conservatives. If you want to have a Republican program that is expensive and evil named - here it is: No Child Left Behind.

I see none of you want to address that REPUBLICAN Demint introduced a bill to defund NPR.

LOL. that’s not government , not a government agency, nor evn 1/100 of 1% of the budget. IN 12 one litle thing you say is “big government” that doesn’t make all Republicans socialits like democrats are.

all of you keep being puppets of the media and helping democrat/socialism . who cares what all of you say. not me
