In Climate Denial, Again
NY Times ^ | 17 October 2010 | Editorial

Posted on 10/18/2010 12:33:31 PM PDT by jda

"A few may genuinely believe global warming is a left-wing plot. Others may be singing the tune of corporate benefactors. And many Republicans have seized on the cap-and-trade climate bill as another way to paint Democrats as out-of-control taxers.

"In one way or another, though, all are custodians of a strategy whose guiding principle has been to avoid debate about solutions to climate change by denying its existence — or at least by diminishing its importance. The strategy worked, destroying hopes for Congressional action while further confusing ordinary citizens for whom global warming was already a remote and complex matter. It was also remarkably heavy-handed."

The REAL denial seems to be coming from leftists who, despite the growing evidence and increasing number of scientists who have enough intestinal fortitude to admit the hoax of global warming, continue to rant about it. Here is some of the evidence that the leftists ignore:

Now, I'm not saying that we should not respect and protect the environment. But, respect and protect are a FAR cry (as far as east is from west, or left from center) from alarmist and cap-n-tax - another of their attempts to control our lives and re-distribute wealth.

New York Times STILL thinks we are stupid and have no other sources of information than...the New York Times. They just don’t get it. Nor do I think do they realize how absurd they look when they run stuff like this. They are in a bubble, and the bubble is circling the drain.

What!!!!! Which side of this issue famously declared "The debate is over"? Which side said compared questioning global warming to holocaust denial? Which side suggested outlawing denial of GW as environmental "hate speech". These people are delusional. (or just power mad liars)

A few may genuinely believe global warming is a left-wing plot.

Really?

Where was the media poo-pooing all of the talk during every war about conspiracies that bring us into combat to benefit the military-industrial complex?

This is a ponzi scheme. It has flip floppped saying that we are heading into an ice age and then into a drought.

They are controlling the type of lightbulbs you use, the type of showerhead you use, the type of toilet, your thermostat settings, the amount of petroleum in your gasoline, the type of car you drive, the size of your yard...

Al Gore lied about being upset over naughty records too.

I really really hope that the Republicans will hold hearings on Cap and Trade during which I would love them to expose the green groups for what they are. Commies, Lawyers collecting money as a non profit, and other various get rich off of somebody else con artists

Others may be singing the tune of corporate benefactors.

Big Business went globalist. If they can see Americans of Chinese made "green" crud for triple the price (while still selling the tried and true products in other countries), so be it. Doesn't sound like GE or others are hurting from the CHANGE.

Still trying to figure out why we got our first significant rainfall of the season yesterday (1/2 inch or so ) and no weather service predicted more than a 40% chance even when 100% moisture was falling.

Perhaps the folks predicting the weather a few decades out will do even worse.

Just because Ted Danson was saying 25 years ago that our oceans would be dead in 20 years is no reason to belive that the Greenie Weenies are STILL crying wolf.

Ted doesn’t think it was a lie, he says now that such hyperbole was needed at the time to generate public awareness.

Now, I'm not saying that we should not respect and protect the environment.

That is the canard that the left puts out there. They say if you don't believe in AGW, then you don't want to respect and protect the environment, but just rape it for your own capitalistic uses. That is why they always say research against AGW come from Big Oil or Big Coal.

“or at least by diminishing its importance. The strategy worked,”

What worked was giving them enough rope to hang themselves.

Those of us knowing it was a hoax had no voice until it finally surfaced that all the information was a lie. They did their own in - and laws were passed on people based on a hoax like prop 23 here to undo laws based on a hoax - even the group doing it noted using numbers 340 percent off.

Global warming was done in by the oldest rule in the book.

You can fool some of the people all the time, you can fool all the people some of the time but you cannot fool all of the people, all of the time.

They are re-running the strategy of denial perfected by Mr. Cheney a decade ago, repudiating years of peer-reviewed findings about global warming and creating an alternative reality in which climate change is a hoax or conspiracy.

Piltdown Man was peer reviewed too.

Climate Gate has brought out the conspiracy to suppress alternative theories and contradictory evidence refuting and debunking the Global Warming theory.

Yup! NYT never touched on the fact that some of us remain completely unconvinced that "climate change" is man's "fault". We know the climate sky-is-falling people changed "global warming" to "climate change" to make it not only more palatable, but also more vague, so that it can mean whatever they want it to mean.

They, and NYT, never explain how the sun, the most important factor in earth temperatures, is somehow, in their minds, only a tiny insignificant factor in their "climate change" carnival sideshow. We know they don't want the sun factored into the debate as they can't control the sun, only man's "contribution". Besides, where would liberals be without something to kick around?

They also ignore the fact that there was obviously global cooling (the ice age) and global warming (the end of the ice age) before man could be blamed for it.

avoid debate about solutions to climate change

The only solutions the left will debate is how much taxes and restrictions should increase. How about increasing CO2 absorbtion via fertizling saltwater algae to grow? That is a really cheap solution. How about man-made clouds for active climate management? They don't want a real solution, only more taxes and a Cuban standard of living.

Mr. Cheney insisted that there was not enough evidence to just “sort of run out and try to slap together some policy that’s going to try to solve the problem.” To which Mrs. Whitman, by then in private life, said: “I don’t see how he can say that with a straight face anymore.”

It couldn’t get any easier could it?

The Climate Gate memos out there for everyone to read.

Let’s face facts you fact hiding, data dumpers. Your computer climate models are designed to produce results that indicate catastrophic climate change.

The Earth’s climatic system is far too complex for the puny human mind at this point in history to create a model that approximates the interactions of continents, oceans, atmosphere, ice packs and solar radiation and predict changes to the climate.

Sorry but we the people of the United States are not ready to expend trillions of dollars, destroy the economy of the world and plunge future generations in to poverty on the say so of a few grant seeking scientist who conspire to suppress the opinion of dissenting scientist.

Nope I like my standard of living I and I will not surrender it for a 18th century standard of living on the opinion of a scientist with little real evidence.

Now, I'm not saying that we should not respect and protect the environment.

Actually, this hits at the heart of the whole "global warming" issue. Leftists have nothing else in their spiritually vacant lives to make them matter, so they have to "care" about "saving the erf". It makes them superior to those who don't care about saving the erf.

Which side of this issue famously declared "The debate is over"?

Not the same thing.

guiding principle has been to avoid debate about solutions to climate change

They want a default judgment that the "debate is over" concerning (human caused) "climate change" itself, and start debating "solutions" to the fantasy "problem".

Climate Change" has been, and will continue, to happen from the beginning of Earth's creation. It can no more be solved, than we can "solve" the "problem" of plate tectonics.

One of the most horrible "climate change tragedies" (from the viewpoint of non-oxygen using early life forms) was the conversion (by other microscopic life forms) of Earth's early atmosphere from a sulfur-compounds/hyrogen-hydrocarbons/CO^2/ammonia base to the more efficient nitrogen-oxygen based; talk about "climate change"!
