The article is from the “Monitor” of McAllen, Texas - not the Christian Science Monitor. Sorry, my bad.

If representatives of our federal government will not cross the lake to search for the body of our fellow citizen, why have Texas Rangers not done so?

I have a hard time thinking the Mexican authorities will make much of an effort when to do so might invite trouble with drug lords or other gangs, and they know the US government doesn’t care, since the dead person is a white male. This is the era of Eric Holder, for whom white people have no rights which the government has an interest in enforcing.

I heard that a Texas DPS trooper stopped the Hartleys, towing their jet skies, for a traffic infraction the day of David’s disappearance, but let them off with a warning when a truck “full of marijuana” (according to the radio report I heard) went by and the DPS trooper went after that.

The context of the report was that it supports Mrs. Hartley’s claim of what the couple were doing that day. It also documents the last time the couple were known to be together.

But now I’m interested in the truck. Does anyone know what happened to it?

For the same reasons they didn’t back in the 1800’s. :-(

Doesn’t mean that some heavily armed Texans can’t.
And P*ss on the federales.

“Doesn’t mean that some heavily armed Texans can’t.”

Good point. There must be a SCUBA divers club that would be willing to search for this mans body.

Yesterday, I read a report where the Mexican authorities did have suspects and they named names. Two brothers and another person connected to the drug cartel. Sounds like the cartel told the Mexican cops to retract their statement or else.

Divers? I was thinking more of a long range hunting club. White Feather style.

Unfortunetly, one was murdered. But they went into danger on their own. No one pushed them into it.

Stupid is what stupid does.

P.S.

I still want to know if he was carrying life insurance; and if so, how much. He may still be very much alive in hiding as his wife collects.

>> I still want to know if he was carrying life insurance <<

A lot of us are wondering the same thing.

But as an alternative to an insurance scam, I think we need also to consider the possibility that this incident involved a drug deal gone bad.

“But as an alternative to an insurance scam, I think we need also to consider the possibility that this incident involved a drug deal gone bad.”

A possibility that can’t be ignored. But just a question from my own little mind: Ordinarily, she would have been shot too…I would think…

Interesting.

If it is drugs, a great possibility which can’t be discarded hence the reason the authorities in both countries are dancing around the case. And anybody who thinks big powerful political figures and their friends in the U.S. aren’t in the drug business are delusional.

“I still want to know if he was carrying life insurance; and if so, how much. .....”

Ok. Let’s look at the wife, since so many of you are so sure she’s guilty.

How did she kill him? With a gun?? No gun was ever reported as being with the couple. Did she drown him?
Big guy...little woman....His parents also stand by her.

What about the eyewitness???

What about the Sheriff??? Is he covering for her??

Texas sheriff exonerates wife in jet-ski murder

[snip] Gonzalez completely rules out foul play on the part of Mrs. Hartley.

“A local witness saw Tiffany Hartley escaping on her jet-ski to the Texas side of the lake,” he said. “She came in at high speed and was being pursued by armed men in a Mexican fishing boat that that the witness clearly observed.”

Gonzalez said the witness was a long-standing member of the Zapata community who was well known to him and regarded as highly credible.

He said the statement of the witness was recorded in the police file but his name was being withheld from the public to protect his privacy.

“The testimony of this witness dispels any idea Mrs. Hartley was involved in any wrongdoing regarding the murder of her husband,” he said firmly. “She called in a 911 phone call to our office at around 2:20 p.m. on the day of the incident, immediately after she got to shore, and her statements to my office confirm what the local witness observed.”

Gonzales confirmed to WND that he had interviewed Mrs. Hartley himself.

He attributed the failure to recover David Hartley’s jet ski and his body to the unwillingness of Mexico to cooperate

“The drug cartels operate from an island on the Mexican side of the lake,” Gonzalez explained.

“Mexican law enforcement authorities do not control the lake – the pirates do,” he said. “Tons of illegal drugs are warehoused on that island by the drug cartels for smuggling into the United States, and the pirates are well armed.”

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=211853

[snip]Gonzalez told CBS News he has blood evidence from Tiffany Hartley’s life vest that supports her version of events.

“Our information is indicating that the witness is reliable, the witness is truthful,” he said, citing “other evidence” that also backs up Tiffany’s claim. “I’m not at liberty to discuss it at this time, but it does indicate that she had nothing to do with” her husband’s disappearance.

Tamaulipas State Police say they have dispatched teams on land, in the water, and in the air, deploying a military aircraft in search of Hartley’s body.

CBS also reported on Friday that police have video of the Hartleys being pulled over shortly before they went to the lake, which corroborates the timeline of Tiffany’s story.

“There’s no reason for us to doubt what she’s saying,” Gonzalez said. “Our investigation is really for us to get a body.”

The problem is that we had a similar case that ended here in Panama.

British citizen fakes death at sea. No body found or anything else. Wife collects on life insurance and comes to Panama.

She buys an apartment, new car, etc.

Dead husband joins her here in Panama to find she now has a boyfriend.

What to do? He is legally dead.

None the less, they tried to scam their insurance company. This why I question this as a possible angle.

"Police: Video Supports Lake Pirate Story"
Actually it doesn't, AuntB, it's a deceptive headline. What it does support is only that they were pulled over by the police, it doesn't at all address what happened later at the lake or the pirate story.
Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, the only LEO that is looking into the incident (on the US side) is a local sheriff.

Sadly her problem is the many different stories she has told, on every morning news show.
Of course she was in shock when it happened but days later her story shoudn’t be all over the place which means she gets skewered by people who want to think the worst of her.

There are lots of unanswered questions or details about this case that we the general public have no knowledge of. If this case turns out that way it wouldn’t be the first by far in which someone has faked a death in order to change their identity. Nothing I’ve read yet exonerates the potential for a faked death. The shooting as described may well be the case but we don’t know yet.
