Attorney Burt Odelson, a noted elction-law expert, is predicting Rahm Emanuel will be ineligible for mayor because he is not a legal resident of Chicago.
Odelson told Roe and Roeper on WLS Radio that when Emanuel leased out his Chicago home he could no longer claim he is a resident.
He rented his house out in Sept 09 and has not been back since and has no residency in Chicago, Odelson said.
Odelson says he has been involved in several residency cases in Illinois that the law is clear.

Illinois?? Chicago??
Yeah, riiight!
If he’s owns property in the city, is regisered to vote in the city, and has voted absentee in recent elections then the Chicago laws will probably consider him a resident for the mayoral run.
yes, I do think it is a bit weird...zero has tanked and is taking the dem party down with him....so get away from him fast...
“The dude just wreaks of mafia.”
Please don’t insult the mafia.....the twerp wouldn’t make a pimple on a mafioso rear end.
Ha!
You nailed it right off the bat! :)
The law is no obstacle for Democrats. Neither is the Constitution.
“If you are a registered voter and continue to vote from your residence, you establish what we consider the intent to be a resident of the city of Chicago,” Chicago Election Board Chairman Langdon Neal said.

See? It’s all about the “intent”!
Never mind that Rahm bought a house and moved the family to DC.
Laws don’t apply to democrats.
Honestly, I think he just pissed off Valerie Jarred one time too many, along with just about every other staffer in the WH.
If Twinkle Toes is involved... rules will be broken... or legs (via the “Chicago Way”).
Likely, they will argue that his stint as chief of staff, is akin to military service. As part of the chain of command in the Executive Branch, he retained residency in Illinois. Much like those who serve retain residency in their home states. Argument being, those who commit to government service, in any branch, are extended the same courtesy of claiming residency in their home states.
That being said, the real clincher would be his tax filings. If he did claim Ilinois residency on his 2009 return, the above argument would hold. If not, the case could be made.
OTOH since Rahm wasn’t “IN” with the in crowd, maybe he’ll be the first to write a book and turn on them....Well we can hope.
I know that works for military, but not sure about federal employees and congresscritters. Do you have that law handy?
My thoughts exactly.
Can’t he just rent an apartment/condo, and fulfill the requirements?
I can’t believe it. Seventy-seven posts and no picture of Nelson Muntz pointing and laughing “Ha! Ha!”
Does anyone think a little detail like residency status is going to be anything more than a speed bump to Rham?
