Milton Little, the ceo of United Way of Atlanta gets an annual salary of $435,920. Not bad for a charitable organization. Lots of $50 and $100 pledges needed to cover his take. Charity can be mighty profitable for some.
I haven't supported the United way since the 1990's when Aramony got forced out and they revealed the pay scales of state and regional directors. Most major charities are just as bad (Do you think Elizabeth Dole ran the Red Cross out of a sense of charity?) The only one I give to is the Salvation Army, which pays its leader a modest salary compared to the big names.
