John Bolton Partners With Tea Party To Launch 'Election Day Tea Party'
TPM ^ | 9/22/10 | Jill Rayfield

Posted on 09/22/2010 10:35:12 AM PDT by pissant

Former Bush-era UN Ambassador John Bolton has teamed up with the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition to launch the "Election Day Tea Party" this week, an effort to galvanize voters in districts where a Republican candidate could potentially unseat an incumbent Democrat.

Michael Patrick Leahy, founder of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, told TPM that Bolton "shared common values" with the Tea Party Coalition, then "asked us to participate in the project and we were very happy to have him support it."

The Election Day Tea Party site lists "The Top 50 Races YOU Can Help to Win," pointing out both the Democratic incumbent and the Republican challenger. "These incumbents," the site says, "in many cases voted for both the Stimulus and Obamacare. Of the 435 races currently underway for the control of your seats in Congress, these are the 50 contests where your individual efforts can help the challengers win."

Just one reason to love him: He hates the U.N. and wants them out of our country.

My Dad has asked me about him...Seeing how my Dad is not that politically active, he does see some good qualities in Bolton for that job...

A future campaign for that office would not offend me in the slightest...

My dream scenario (which is unlikely to ever happen but it would be awesome if it did!) would be Bolton defeating Senator Thune for the GOP presidential nomination and then seeing Thune’s supporters blubber about how he wasn’t given a fair shot.

Sweet revenge.

WHat’s your beef with Thune? I’m not a big fan, but I’m ever grateful he beat Das-hole.

For starters?

- Huge McCain suckup, endorsed McCain EARLY in the 2008 election cycle when the race was still wide open (Lindsey Graham gets crusified for this, Thune gets a free pass and is swooned over as Presidential material). Also endorsed socialist diablo Mark Kirk early in the primary season, which was used to Kirk in fund-raising letters to get him momentum. Seems to be a big fan of RINOs and the status quo.

- Related to the above topic, Thune has expressed dismay over the rise of non-establishment approved tea party candidates taking out the chosen ones in the primaries. He says Jim DeMint’s support of these tea party candidates is divisive.

- One of the biggest earmarkers in Washington, he was named Porker of the Month by Citizens Against Government Waste. Like Robert C. Byrd, he tends to stay popular with his constituents by “bringing home the bacon” and helped created this massive government spending orgy that resulted in the GOP being thrown out of office four years ago. We don't need any more George W. Bush style “big spending” conservatives

- Related to the above thread, although he votes conservative 90% of the time, if you look at his ACU ratings for the 10% of the time he's doing the wrong thing, it's always on bailout bills and big federal handouts.

- Part of the “Gang of 10” working on a “compromise” to “compromise” on domestic drilling and environmental protection. Another thing Graham gets crucified here for, but when Thune does it, his fan club tells us there's notihng to see, move along.

- Continues to defend TARP and the RINOs taking heat for promoting it

- The mainstream media is actively promoting this guy as an “acceptable” compassionate conservative who doesn't scare the voters. So is Mitt Romney, who is actively fund-raising for Thune.

- After the GOP was ready to explode over Obama ramming Obamacare down our throats and declare war on the RATs, this guy took to the airwaves to advice Republicans “not to overreact” and that we can still “work together” with the President and that we should seek “bipartisanship” on a case-by-case basis.

and of course....

- When the feds threatened to close down an unnecessary base in his home state that studies had shown was not needed, this guy went on the warpath for his precious pork, and promised to make the GOP’s life a living hell until he got his way. He then blackmailed President Bush by switching on the Bolton nomination and announced he would join the RATs in OPPOSING Bolton until he got his way. This was at a time where the RATs were filibustering Bolton and the GOP needed EVERY person aboard to unite for Bolton. The feds finally caved to Thune’s demands, but by then it was too late and Bush was forced to recess appoint Bolton. Without official confirmation, Bolton's career never recovered and he was never given the legitimacy deserved of an outstanding statesmen who was eminently qualified for the post.

In short, he's another Fred Thompson, Lindsey Graham, etc. type who generally votes the “right way”, 80-90% of the time, but stabbed us in the back during some major battles and is way, way, way, too cozy with the inside-the-beltway mentality. Sure he's infinitely preferable to Daschle for that seat, but he sure doesn't deserve a promotion to President. Also, given that South Dakota is generally a "safe state" for us, Thune deserves a primary challenge for being a mediocre Senator. There are certainly plenty of South Dakota Republicans who would make better Senators than him. Alas, it appears he's going to cruise to re-election unopposed and can continue talking conservative while hanging out with status quo insiders at D.C. cocktail parties.

I always liked John. I like him even more after finding out that he is with the election day tea party group.
Anna Little as # 1 on their list to win against Frank “it’s my health care bill” Pallone.
“It’s not Obama, Pelosi’s or Reid’s bill, it’s mine”
Anna Little is going beat Pallone.

Blunt, forthright and truthful = John Bolton

A long shot but he is 2012 Tea Party presidential material.

I’ll forgive him, or at least overlook to a degree, his crappy endorsements - almost every politician has a closet full of those.

But if he’s a TARPophile and an enviro-mental-case, he needs to straighten up and fly right, ASAP, or be booted.

It's true every conservative politician had some crappy endorsements... the thing that irks me about Thune is the timing of it all. If he had endorsed McCain when it came down to Romney, McCain and Huck with McCain leading... okay, he's just trying to score points and increase his clout by getting on the side of the likely "winner". Shameless, but not unexpected.

But the thing is this guy hooked up McCain long before it was "popular" to do so... indeed when McCain wasn't even given much of a chance to do well in a second Presidential bid, Thune was out cheerleading for him. IMO, Thune seems way too cozy with media-approved RINOs. What really annoys me is freepers are constantly demanding Lindsey Graham's head on a platter for being McCain's BFF in the Senate, but when Thune does the exact same thing, they ignore it and want to promote him to POTUS.

The fact Thune seems to be the media's favorite "conservative" Senator at this point is a huge red flag for me. There's a concentrated effort by the MSM to sell this guy to the GOP base. And if you check my posting history during 2004, I was a huge Thune fan and thought he'd make a great Senator -- he had a rock solid conservative record in the House. Since then, he's been mediocre and I've soured on him.

I lost all respect for the man when he stabbed John Bolton in the back. His little temper tantrum against Bush & the GOP leadership because he could lose his precious air force base was in bad taste, but forgivable given the base's popularity in SD. But using a fellow conservative as a human shield to get his way was not. Bolton lost his chance at a confirmation vote because of asses like Thune. As a conservative, I could not imagine myself, say, ever joining the Dems to "bork" Alito in exchange for getting some important historic landmark building in Illinois saved.

That's why I think if Bolton ever swooped in during the presidential primary and killed Thune's presidential prospects, it would be poetic justice. Thune himself said at the time "what does around, comes around"

As for the other two issues you mentioned, here's the story:

‘Gang Of 10′ Gives Away GOP’s Oil Issue

Bob Bennett’s TARP vote defended by John Thune

The Bolton thing was his worst act. Inexcusable.

Foolish choice for President. I’m flabbergasted that so many freepers are all like “yay” every time he’s mentioned for 2012.

Bolton definitely needs to jump into the presidential race if Thune runs, for that reason alone. Bolton will make sure GOP voters don't suffer amnesia about Thune's actions.

I doubt Bolton could/will actually win the nomination, but I think he's a likely prospect for Secretary of State in a GOP adminstration.
