Send in the Marines!" For many generations, successive U.S. presidents have given those orders, from early in our nation's history in places like Montezuma's palaces in Mexico to the Barbary pirates' shores of Tripoli, and more recently from the halls of Saddam Hussein in Iraq to the pirate-infested coast of Somalia.
If they want a crap storm they won’t believe they can try that!
when Hussein succeeds in having himself named as President for Life disbanding the USMC will be one of his first acts.Until then...ain’t gonna happen.
Sure Obama. Have the USMC stand down. I’m sure that a two hundred thousand out of work, highly motivated, highly traines, elite soldies won’t get up to any trouble. Yep no possible problem there.
Any pol who would do away with the Marine Corps is either a F’ing idiot or a Marxist. Sadly, our government is shot full of both types!
There has been talk of cutting, or eliminating the Corps before this.
And the talk keeps going
Until the Sh!t hits the fan and there is a need for a trained, combined arms force to put on the ground somewhere.
I am just an old Zoomie, but if bammy tries to get rid of the Corps, he will go down in history.... Lots of other things to cut first - usually beginning with the phrase “Entitlement...”
This conversation has been going on since post WWI. Many believe the amphibious assault is obsolete, especially with today’s gps guided standoff weapons. The Marines were formed to protect the captain of a ship from mutiny. They’ve come a long way since those days and they are more than a match for some socialist pushing POTUS that pronounces it the US Marine Corpse.
SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 2nd. WERE EXPECTING A SELLOUT CROWD SO GET YOUR TICKETS NOW!

Harry Truman’s first Secretary of Defense, Louis A. Johnson had similar opinions.
When the war started in Korea, MacArthur threw in over 3 army divisions composed mostly of out of shape draftees fresh from occupation duty in Japan. They were led by over age officers, WWII ETO vets who were on what they saw as the victory lap of their careers. The result was a bloodbath.
The lines eventually held in the mountains north of Pusan (Busan today) and along the Naktong river. General Walker, the commander on the ground had only The Wolfhounds, 27th Infantry USA, and the 5th Marines as available reserves. The Wolfhounds were good but if I count correctly the 5th Marines saved the Pusan Perimeter at least least 3 times when Army lines were broken or flanked by the DPRK. USMC aircraft were the only squadrons trained for close air support available in theater at the time.
The moral of of the story is; there will always be a “Next War” and when it happens presidents should know that it’s really good to have a highly skilled, highly motivated well led combined arms force like the Marines at your disposal.
Let the bastards just try, PLEASE!!!
God bless The United States Marine Corps!!!
I wouldn't presume to limit the likely response to active-duty Marines.
In a pig’s @$$ !!!!!

THROUGH THE YEARS...
“Beginning with the presidency of Andrew Jackson, the Marines had survived eleven serious proposals to disband the Corps or merge it with the Army.5”
