The state's largest computer failure ever continues to hamstring key Virginia government agencies trying to handle their core duties this morning. Agencies across the state are wrestling with different types of problems as a result of computer server failures, which hinder their access to IT applications, shared information and stored data.

Interesting... Kansas had problems in at least one area that sounded the same. Kept/keeping them from paying vendors... at least two months now.

It looks like VITA (Virginia IT Agency) has privatized its work to Northrop Grumman which has sub contracted to EMC, a global IT consulting firm.
I think it is a SAN failure. I think they lost the entire datastore and have to restore from tape.
If only the Feds would have a similar crash....
EMC is the SAN Vendor. One of the rumors is that they were doing an upgrade when it crashed.
