Dismantling the Culture

VIDEO 6:16 min.

Today on Uncommon Knowledge, Thomas Sowell, author of Dismantling America.  The United States isn’t in decline merely because the federal government is overweening and ineffective, Dr. Sowell argues.  We’re in decline because we have abandoned our most fundamental values.

The idea of personal responsibility is more or less off the table.  It’s passé in many places…If you don’t have a sense of personal responsibility, and what you have is the government taking money from responsible people and giving it to irresponsible people — or in many cases corrupt people — that’s not a viable situation for the long term.

As usual, Dr. Sowell's observations are valid and oriented to liberty.

American citizens must learn that there is nothing benevolent or "compassionate" about passing laws to "take" the earnings of some citizens in order to buy votes from other citizens with those "taken" dollars. This was another of Dr. Sowell's observations many years ago when he made a statement to the effect that the so-called "vision" of the liberals sounds good, but the consequences are not those promised and lead, instead, to dependency and enslavement--not benevolent good.

The Congressmen, Senators, and President who promote such a counterfeit idea rely on the ignorance and greed of the people in order to enslave them, even as they use scripture to justify their tyrannical policies.

John Adams to Thomas Jefferson, February 2, 1816:

"Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak; and that it is doing God service, when it is violating all His laws. Our passions, ambition, avarice, love, resentment, etc., possess so much metaphysical subtlety, and so much overpowering eloquence, that they insinuate themselves into the understanding and the conscience, and convert both to their party."

If you don’t have a sense of personal responsibility, and what you have is the government taking money from responsible people and giving it to irresponsible people — or in many cases corrupt people —

In the absence of assuming personal responsibility one blames others, always. It's a Lawyer/Lazy/Leftist/Media/Obama/Pelosi thing.

How obvious is that?

Sowell’s experience is the same as mine regarding schools. It was liberal teachers (mostly white) who infiltrated black schools after “integration” that destroyed standards. Black teachers before did not tolerate bad behavior or accept poverty as an excuse for poor performance. My mother, a school librarian, said the same thing. I hate liberals for what they did to black people.

It’s a real shame that took place. I thought that was very interesting Dr. Sowell brought that up and sadly that’s the way most all our public schools have been dumbed down by lib teachers.
