Unlikely, going the wrong direction. However, there are two murderers on the loose from Arizona, though they too would be unlikely to be heading back west toward Arizona. More likely someone who they may have stopped to help who got the drop on them. Or could have knocked on their trailer door and subdued them.

going north on I-25 would suggest that the two were
going north to the mountains of New Mexico or Colorado.
