On that little note of caution, there does seem to be some delay, or perhaps slow, methodical, unseen progress in regard to closing the valves etc in order to test the integrity of the well. At roughly 10 pm Eastern, the flow does not appear to have changed much, if at all, and the BP site notes that the test has not yet started. (Nor has it two hours later having finished writing this post).
The white pipe is injecting dispersant that changes the color of the oil/gas to more brown and seems to be coming in spurts rather than regularly at the moment, but this may be because of the changes in the equipment below the leak, which is likely siphoning off a considerable volume from the well.
I do note, however that Secretary Chu came down to monitor the test today, and this may have a little impact on the schedules.

I don’t know if something in the underwater surveys spooked them but it stopped em dead in their tracks.
That’s a very educational website, by the way. I’m bookmarking it.
I have heard that the government stopped all progress until they give their approval. Anyone else heard this?
"What does this button do?"
NO DON'T----
Some of it may be, but most of the posters there are hard core leftists.
I heard that the CG had stopped the work until its impact could be analyzed.
Yep, he had no business in the server room touching anything. Typical of the arrogance of some managers that their title gives them knowledge far above their techies, who actually are working their butts off in an effort to help them look good.
About late 90's, we purchased a big Raid-5 Rack, something like 76 hard-drives. We wanted the wholesaler to deliver it and install it on site before we took possession.
Procurement over-ruled that decision and said for security reasons, the large 'computer item' would be delivered to their off-site warehouse and their guys would bring it by. We got a call that the procurement guys had just left it on the dock, come down and get it. Someone noticed a few dents and scratches. We had the service rep come out and look at it, and he said they had delivered it crated and intact.
Finally one of the guy made the decision to plug it in and see if the drives would even churn. They churned all right. The unit had been knocked over on its side and all of the hard drives began eating themselves to death from all the internal damage.
The bottom line, we lost the Raid box, and Procurement would not replace it, denying they had done anything wrong.
When it is technical, and you don't know what you are doing, don't play games and pretend. Kind of reminds me of a certain resident on Penn Ave., DC
Too bad you couldn’t hold procurement liable
for the damage they did. The manager responsible
should have been canned and his salary seized to
cover the cost of the damaged server. That
would have been a just solution.
Oh ....damn...
ROFLMAO!!!
You don't have one of those giant Degausser's?
I think that is what they were called at a classified installation I was a Tech Rep on...
Actually never saw it used though.( That was a number of years ago.)
I just heard they had some way of taking care of those kind of problems.
The only approved method for that level of
classified is the acid tank. Paper goes to a
crosscut shredder, then burn bag.

So far, there are multiple rumors as to why they stopped.
Pressure test didn’t hold.
Leaks from around base of BOP.
Seismic Scan and Sonar Scans of seafloor.
Faulty choke valve in #3 Ram (this is most likely)
Visit by Chu.
White House ‘ordered’ more tests, more time on tests.
ANY OR ALL OF THESE COULD BE TRUE.
bump for later
