There is too much of a belief among many that enforced celibacy ensures some kind of higher spirituality. This is not true and other branches of christianity know it. I would say most Catholics don't believe that, though they do know that it requires a higher level of prayer life in order to sustain a life of celibacy. That higher level of prayer life gives the priests the strength to serve our Lord, it doesn't make him any better human being than any other.
Actually, it often actually requires a higher level of prayer life and union with God for a married man to maintain true physical intimacy with a woman, which requires self-discipline and, at the same time, maintains his love for her. This is what I meant when I said that celibates can't claim to have a higher degree of spirituality in any area over a married man, including that of prayer.
As I said, celibacy is no guarantor of any heightened spirituality including a so-called "higher level of prayer life".
